Problems with game install

So I just bought game and it won't seem to open and play properly. The desktop shortcut fails and if I try to launch from Steam it fails.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? My past experience with Steam support is that they have basically be useless. Any their information points me to Paradox who don't see to have a live support option so at best it would be days before I get an answer if ever.

When I start from short cut it doesn't I get message like internet shortcut is invaild. If I start from Steam it doesn't but it crashes as soon as I click play.

If I understod you correctly the launcher does nott show up so navigate to your HOI4 install folder, locate a file named launcher-installer-windows.msi and run it. Choose repair if possible otherwise remove.

After that start the game and see if it works now.

How do you get actual support from Steam?

It seems like everytime I run into a problem with a new game install the only way to get help is to post to that games discussion board and hope someone can help you. This usually works but in a couple of instances I ended up returning the game for a refund because no one on the board could help me.

The game developers always point to Steam as the problem but all Steam support seems capable of doing is having uninstall and reinstall. If that doesn't work then ask for your money back.

steam only sells the game, they do no provide support for them. the game developer is responsible for making sure their games run on steam correctly. if a game is not working, you need to take it up with that games developer.

steam support only helps with account and billing issues, a game not working is not an account nor billing issue

Steam support is there for account and billing issues. They don't provide support for games, as they don't make them.

Except for the fact that their software is actually doing the install. So they should provide installation support.

Steam only downloads the installer. The installer itself is wrapped by the game devs. If it goes wrong there, that's up to the game devs.

Ah, Paradox launcher. Yep, certainly a game dev issue, not a Steam issue.

Steam support cannot help you with this. Paradox is the one you need help from.

And yet, I have had two other games where the developer said it was a Steam issue or the stupid steam cards caused crashes.

And yes, I opened a thread on the game discussion to see if anyone has any ideas on how to fix the problem.

And having done software development myself, I understand that even if you are just wrapping an application you have to still provide some support. Especially, if your wrapper doesn't handle failures properly.

It is the Paradox launcher that always has issues the game devs need to fix.
