its only for offline people, online and away still show correctly
Steam website is showing my last online status as offline but when logging back on Steam client, the timestamp show last online 3 minutes ago.

Since Saturday I have been having issues with the time stamp showing diferently whenever I putt to refresh profile page, comment sections and edit posts. The refresh instead would not update a minute after instead kept rolling back a minute before or jumping two, three minutes. Now after the usual tuersday maintenance the main issue about 'last online' got worse. Those aren't signed in or logged will have their status displayed offline and those are logged, the time stamp still show issues when refreshing the page multiple times making 'last online' be seen a minute before instead updating the time forward.

I have opened a ticket to support about two days ago about discussing about this problem and they haven't replied back.

It can be bug or new update for old non used accounts to being more safety

The lastlogoff field in the api is now gone, which is why sites are no longer able to get this data.

Steam now does not show last online dates unless you are friends with the user.

This was a new update pushed yesterday.

recent activities on the account

you got banned 55 days ago
crafted badges mid-jan
posted just on the tf2 board a week ago
uploaded screenshots a few days ago
played games all the time
etc.

if there is no such activity on the account, it is not very likely that this person does even want any unsolicited interaction with other people on the platform.

implying you could tell with a profile with no bans, private game data and no screenshots

also I shouldn't have to try and hunt down when someone was last online just because steam decided to hide it

To add to the list, there's also discussion posts where users can see that and make their own conclusion.

I'd like to think of this update as providing more privacy.

Otherwise, why would they push something like this?

Why does it matter? It's not even accurate, people who stay in invisible mode or don't open their friends list look like they haven't been online in a while, even though they can be very active.

If they are not your friend, which is what the update was for, why are you trying to hunt them down?

Send an invite.

most of the time it's for trading,I'm not gonna add a dead account that's been offline for 400 days

Being invisible or not signing into the friends list will result in the last online status not updating. So, you really don't know if that was truly the last online time. I've been invisible for 9 days now.
