that is a developer tool, not a game. its there for game developers to see and understand how to integrate their games into some of the features on steam, like the achievement system.

I played it in arcades in the 70s. Valve recreated for the 50th (40th?) anniversary.

It is a game, a legit hidden game that you can play local multiplayer only, just like the arcade game was.

That it is now used as a tool for those that sail the 7 seas in another story; doesnt change that it is a GAME, and a historic one.

For anyone that doesn't know, it is a legitimate developers tool here on Steam to show steamworks integration. The fact that you can actually play it is kinda secondary to what it's meant to do (and what it sadly is mainly used for now).

if you wanna know how to put Steamworks stuff in your game, Spacewar is open source example application that covers most of Steamworks features, so you have examples in code and for testing.

if you see Spacewar as a played game on someones Steam profile, it is sometimes a lazily coded mod but in most cases the guy was or is playing a pirated version of something.

I don't understand why people here argue that it is not a game. Space War was the first multiplayer game. While this version is a dev tool, there is no reason why you can't play it as a game.
