Family Sharing Error with GTA V, I'm desperate..
I seriously need your help guys. I don't know who else can help me. I've contacted the Rockstar Support first to help me. No change, they adviced me to buy the game again. Then I contacted the Steam Support and they said that I have to contact the Rockstar Support.

I don't know what next.
I will paste the ticket I sent to the Steam Support (with blurred names, because of privacy issues). I wrote it in German to them, I will translate the text in English.

Good evening,

I've had a problem with Steam Family Sharing and GTA V for a few days now.
It is a very specific and complicated problem. I first tried to explain the issue to Rockstar Support, but I couldn't be helped. I was advised to buy a new copy. I've been in the game for 1177 hours and I really don't want to give up on my progress.

when GTA V was released for the PC some time ago, I bought it for my family sharing account ACCOUNT1, with the thought that my brother and I can play alternately since we are each other each created a new account.
So I started the game for the first time with my ACCOUNT2 account and had to enter the game code. Now the game is linked to my current Steam account ACCOUNT2. In retrospect, I noticed that family sharing does not work with GTA, since the copy can only be redeemed on one account. I was annoyed.
For a while then everything went well, I just played GTA V through the one on my account ACCOUNT2, via family sharing.
However, since last week it doesn't work anymore. I am told that I have to buy it, for whatever reason.
If I want to start GTA V via ACCOUNT2, it says that I should buy GTA V. If I start GTA V via ACCOUNT1, I am told that I should register with ACCOUNT2 because it is linked to GTA V.

I turn in a vicious cycle and I don't know what to do. I asked Rockstar Support to remove my GTA V from my Steam account so I don't have to start the game on Steam. If you did, however, I would be denied access to this copy and would then be forced to make a new copy and would have to start over.

Maybe it's a mistake in steam family sharing? Before the mistake came, I gave my friend access to my family sharing and he gave me his. However, it does not have a GTA V for Steam.

I hope you can help me with my problem.

Best wishes, laffie

I hope somebody can help.

Thanks for your effort :PlatonicLove:

I think the overall lesson is if you buy a game with Account1, get it sorted on Account1 before you get Account2 involved. Although I can understand how a person wouldn't have thought it was a big deal, I might not have either. But yours is clearly a cautionary tale.

gta5 can not be family shared.
you can only play it while using the account that it was bought on.

You can’t share games with 3rd party drm, like gtaV

I bought GTA V on my other account, activated and played it on my current account.

Your either mistaken or it was a glitch. You can’t family share gtaV.

If that was a glitch, then it's weird that it wasn't fixed after 3 years. I mean I got 1177 hours playing it.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Haha, great just wondering if you could use the cd key from the new account to activate on your old account.
