Game key not recognized

Hey, i wanted to claim the game keys from physical purchases from a long time ago so i can keep them "forever" ( as long as steam is still a thing ), some worked like Half Life GOTY edition but most don't work even though the games are on steam. Is there a way to actually get them to work?

just because a game is on Steam does not mean the retail key works on Steam.

L4D, Rush For Berlin, empire earth, Company of Heroes and a lot more, i can't really tell you all of them, i have around a hundred of them to try lol

If they don't work, they're NOT a steam key.

For old games, I expect most won't work.

I advise against discussing forbidden subjects especially when the games in question can easily be gotten cheaply during sales

l4d does not work?! thats odd, as long it is the pc version it should.

rush for berlin, paradox has an own account system and launcher, you can try that.

empire earths current owner seems to be activision, sierra is defunct and vivendi does not care a flying funk, unlikely you get any digital access there.

company of heroes should work on relic and from there you should get a Steam key.

in short, you have to google every single game.

If they do not work either you enter it wrong, either they key been used already, or you took too long to redeem your games, as the devs revoke any of the game keys that were not claim at a certain point. You can contact the game devs to see if they're willing to give you a key, but do not expect to be given one as it's a high chance they just tell you just to buy the game off Steam, or when it goes on sale.

L4D... You do realize you can't play that game without steam right? I have to assume one of the following, you enter it wrong, or you buy the game used from someone that already claim the game key, as FYI keys can only be redeem once, and they're bound to the account for life.

Empire earth was never on Steam to begin with.

There's a new version of Company of Heroes, after Sega took over them.
