SSD DIsk Speeds
I just installed a new 500gb SSD but the disk speed when downloading games hasnt increased??

Downloading speed has nothing to do with SSD's. That is your internet connection

Are you downloading games faster than an HDD can write data? Probably not. So a SSD wouldn't make a difference there.

SSD should only increase read/write speeds, not download speeds.

like was said, while the SSD can read and write data quicker, you are still limited by the speed at which that data can be pulled from the internet.. likely where your bottleneck is

In task manager my network is going at 70-80 Mbps and my disk is about 20 mb/s

If you think there is an issue with the speed of your SSD, then we can maybe give suggestions on possible resolutions for that, such as, for example only, checking for a firmware update on it or maybe SATA drivers needing to be updated.

Or, if you need suggestions on download speeds, we can maybe help with that, too. But I would say the two are separate issues.

The disk write usage 90% of the time can only go as high as your internet at it's fastest speeds when downloading games...If you wanna find out your individual read/write speeds on your ssd, there are dedicated applications for that. Any samsung M.2 Nvme or 2.5 has listed speeds whenever you buy them.

If you want full speed.. make sure you run a cable.

70-80 Megabits per second and 20 Megabytes per second, respectively. There's a significant diffierence, where 20MB/s = 160Mbps and 80Mbps = 10MB/s

Also isp's list their speeds in megabits/s where as steam uses megabytes/s a I have 500 megabit/s download but in steam I only get 50 megabyte/s download

So are you saying you're downloading at 70-80 megabits per second, while your disk is going at 20 megabytes per second? That is way more than the 80 Mbps.
8 bits per byte. 80 megabits would be 10 megabytes.
20 megabytes would be 160 Mbps.

Steam then settings then downloads, from the menu in the top left of the client. There you see "display download rates in bits per second".

Good point by the good Brockenstein above. Users often make that mistake here, if that is what is going on.

It does to an extent, but only if you have super faster internet.

8Mb = 1MB.

Your ISP and Speedtest.com state speeds in Mb (Megabits). Steam shows speeds in MB (Megabytes).

Your max speed on Steam would be 25MB, but there are many factors as well, such as network congestion (both on your LAN and in your neighborhood) that could easily account for the slightly slower speeds.

Your speeds are not fast enough to get any extra speed for an SSD over an HDD.

On another note, please do not make more then one thread on a subject.
