And, did you set up your ini file to accept mods? Without adding the required lines to it, the game will not recognize any mods.
Also, the mod additions are all placed in their respective tabs in the build menu under the contraptions tab. And, they look like vanilla assets with different colors and desscriptions. I still have to read what they are from time to time to make sure I'm not using the vannila vacuum.

Once you have added those lines to your ini (it will look like 'Fallout4.ini') file, then you can continue to the next step of downloading a mod manager. I recommend NMM, as it is easy to use and most mods, including Manufacturing Extended are pretty much plug and play.

The above link is the latest version of NMM, since support for the utility has stopped on the Nexus website. However, the Nexus site IS reliable and still working, with continuous updates and additions to mods.
