After Paypal password reset, can't use Paypal in Steam
So after resetting the password in Paypal, I tried entering the new password when Steam prompted me. It didn't work.

I tried it in the Steam app then on the Chrome page. No dice.

Any idea what's going on?

Are you getting any useful error message when you try it? Or any error message at all for that matter?

Just says can't log in. I'm certain it's the right password.

Right. Unfortunately, I'm not a PayPal user so I can't be of any further assistance. I have flagged this post and asked for it to be moved to Help & Tips where it can hopefully attract a more expert opinion. It's up to you if you want to delete the post instead and just repost it over there in order to save some time.

Thanks, maybe I'll try entering my debit card info directly. Paypal worked a couple months ago, so I don't know what is happening.

You're certain? Try it in Paypal and see if it's the correct one.

Have you tried removing the Paypal from your Steam account and re-add it?

on Steam:
settings -> webbrowser -> clear cache and cookies.

on chrome:
clear also cache and cookies and most importantly, Google Chrome has an error where it doesn't save the new password. if you use that function, even if you enter another one, chrome will replace it with the old saved one. so you have to delete the saved password to fix it.

Okay, I tried the above and it didn't seem to help. The password is not the isssue. When I entered a wrong password on purpose it said "Some of the info was not correct". The right password gets me the "cannot log in" error message. I do not know if the problem is on Paypal's end or Steam's.

I should note that I just got a new computer, and this is the first time I am trying to purchase something on Steam via Paypal. I am also doing this in Taiwan, so maybe that has something to do with it? It was not an issue on my older computer.

Alright, I think I figured out the issue. Shutting off Windows Defender Virus protection for a moment was all it took.
