Portal 2 stutters every few seconds
Brand new PC, far more powerful than my old one, runs everything better- except this. Settings are all low but still, every few seconds, the game will freeze for half a second and the audio will loop, and then everything is normal again. Over and over forever. Help.

I'd assume I have proper cooling, it's a laptop and I make sure to keep things away from the vent. I'll do some research on throttling.

Yes, that's way better! Thank you very much. Man, this has to be the most active I've been on Steam in years, spamming forums with performance and hardware questions, it really does feel like I've opened up so many more possibilities with this awesome budget computer!

looks like you fixed it? How'd you do it? May help other people who come across the thread with same issue.

Oh yeah yeah. I'm using a Windows 10 laptop, so what I did was I clicked the battery icon on the lower right, and moved the slider all the way to the right for best performance instead of best battery life. When I unplug it, it snaps into my settings for being unplugged (full best battery life, lowest brightness), but when I plug it in, I have to send the slider back to the right. It's a small inconvenience.

I don't use Windows 10, but there should be a way to set up a custom power plan in your Windows. Set one up for max performance. Then change to that when gaming maybe. That will help maybe, but use more batterly life also, if you are unplugged.

You can set custom values in a power plan (advanced options) for both unplugged and plugged in.

OP can definitely use a power plan which has the settings they want so they don't have to tweak it every time they plug in/unplug.

I'm on Windows 10, I added -dx11 to the launch options and it runs much better, not perfect but quite good. Also saves my video settings now, used to reset them when I quit the game.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
