Steam supports GBP
The Gibraltar currency is GIP
The GIP is tied to the GBP. But they are NOT THE SAME CURRENCY
Gibraltar does not use GBP. The local currency is not GBP. Its GIP
And no it doesn't matter that it's a 1:1 conversion. Or that they use the same symbol. Or that they use the same nomenclature. Its fundamentally a different currency. Steam does not support GIP. Thus they default to the bet local currency that they do support. The Euro.
There wouldnt be a single person or business in the country that wouldnt accept a payment in GBP.
Sadly, I doubt that even if you could contact support on this, they wouldnt do anything about it as they would probably have the same answer as Saturo and just dismiss the query.

Gibraltar uses GIP which is tied to the GBP 1:1. Its functionally an entirely different currency
Interoperability locally isnt relevant. Any more than for example Singapoer currency is 'interchangable' with Burnei currency at a fixed rate. That doesn't mean you can pay with Burnei currency on the Singapore store. They are functionally different money
just because they accept GBP broadly does not mean it is their currency. what was written above is correct, OP doesn't know his own currency, they produce and use their very own one and not GBP.
it makes no sense to introduce this currency to Steam, we are talking about a spot on the planet that you can bicycle around in 15 minutes.
on the other hand it makes clear sense to apply Euro as a currency as this much more easier to geolocate and despite your article stating otherwise, Euro should be broadly accepted there too. business would be dumb af, if they don't accept the currency that is literally used in the nextdoor village.
the price does not differ that much anyway and it is not like someone is forced to buy Steam games on Steam.

Both currencies are legally used and accepted by banks and businesses in Gilbraltar, while Euros are accepted at the retailers convenience.
Thanks moistly harmless for your logical and helpful replies.
FYI steam support has been informed and they will be looking into it.
