I can't look at m rated games anymore
Hi! So i'm 16 years old and i'm pretty honest about my age so i chose my real age when i first made a steam account. I bought CSGO about a year ago and bought Far Cry 5 on my 16th birthday, both of which i got on steam and are 18+ games. A few of my real life friends are playing Warframe, an 18+ free to play game and i got interested in it. So i check the store page, it asks me to put in my age (which usually doesn't happen) and i do. Obviously i choose my real age since what would the point be to lie when i have already chosen an age? Guess what? I can't view the game because of my age! I would understand if it was a premium game and you had to have enough steam wallet money on your account to buy it, but this game was free! My birthday was last month so it couldn't have been an older change. Why has this suddenly happened? Could i have accidentally pressed some option to activate a family setting where underage people can't buy any m-rated games?

I honestly tell them I am 16 and the store doesn't let me see/buy 18+ games. Why did this happen...is that a serious question?
The fact that you could do until now has nothing to do with it - that would be pretty much the same as the guy at the store mistakenly not checking your ID when you buy liquor. Since the age check is there, now, it shouldn't be a surprise that there is some (minor) consequence for not passing it.

Restarting Steam is all you need to do.

So steam punsihes honest people. Then they pretty much tell people to lie. Anyways it's pretty stupid that it happens now all of the sudden.

Are you that daft? Games 18+ are not meant not to be sold to younger people. So when Steam 'knows' you are younger, you are not able to see and buy them. Be happy then that system in place is as weak as it is.

Please accept my apology for the 'daft' part. I posted under a bit of stress I just got news that very close to my hometown, in the city I went to the university people got killed and hurt in an act of violence and I didn't know if those I know and care for that live there were OK and realize that was uncalled for.

You're 16.

Not 18.

Thus: you are trying to do something that they can in fact get into legal trouble for allowing. So stop trying to do that. If you really want the game, you HAVE to actually have a parent do it for you until you're 18. That's why the number and rating system exists.

that is no punishment.
they dont tell you to lie.
these age gates exist longer then you. they are not suddenly there. they are applied to games where they fit.

the same way mommy had to buy you fc5 to not get the cashier fired, the same way she can allow you to access age gated content. just ask your parents for permission and you can enter whatever in there ... but after consideration, please tell them from me they shouldn't. you don't even understand the concept behind this.

Mom gave me cash to buy wallet cards so it's 100% ok. I got my warframe by putting in a fake age when it asked me. Steam is pretty broken since it doesn't remember your age.

That still doesn't mean it't ok. If you parents give you money, you still can't assume you are allowed to buy booze, cigarettes or anything else that is age restricted.
