Help removing unwanted/unplayed/never installed Dota2 and Team Fortress 2 from my library
I did search but couldn't find any info on how to do this.

First of all I have never installed or played either of these games and have no interest in ever playing them. Not my kind of game.

Steam seems to think that I own some type of Dota2 DLC with the note:
"Added to your Steam library as part of the Alienware - Dota2 OEM"

It also thinks I have Team Fortress 2 DLC with the note:
"Added to your Steam library as part of the Orange Box retail"

It is a mystery to me why it thinks these games are in my library. Is there any way I can get them to go away? I am not aware of doing anything that would add them to my library and I really don't like having them there...

Thanks

Orange Box contained Portal, TF2 and HL2 Ep 2 if I remember right. TF2 was a retail game once.

Steam Support --> Game --> Select game --> permanently remove

You should be able to remove those licenses there.

There was an Alienware promotion where you got free games with an Alienware machine. Dota 2 was part of those.

The Orange Box retail contained the following games:
- Portal
- Half-Life 2
- Half-Life 2 Ep1
- Half-Life 2 Ep2
- Team Fortress 2

See above as to why you got them.

For the removal of them, see the previous two posters.
Steam Support is under the Help menu, right? If I I select Dota2 I do not have an option to permanently delete. I have:
-I'm having trouble with items
-DLC or bonus content is missing
-gameplay or technical issue (not under this either)
-it's not in my library (I wish)

Is this option somewhere else?

I have never had an Alienware machine and I don't know what an Orange box is. I've certainly never purchased one - the games in it are not things I would want to play. So I think it's still a mystery...
You don't actually need to own an Alienware product in order to get their promotional gifts, many people have been giving away or eventually exploited any Alienware promotional keys so that people could just redeem the key without the purchase of any of their products.

It could very well be that you have at some point redeemed an Alienware promotional key found somewhere during a giveaway or such.

Orange box is a bundle containing a collection of Valve's games, as you can view below;

Should go:

I don't have these menu entries in my client. I have no upper level menu entry that says Support. If I go to the one under Help and find the game - I do not have an option to remove.
I do not believe that I have ever redeemed a promotional key for any Alienware stuff.

What is even weirder is that when I look at Dota2 in my library, it says DLC Added 12/31/1969. How is that even possible?
Dota2 is actually in everyone's library I think. Thats a placeholder date.
I never used to have it and I know this because I categorized all my games. It just popped up very recently. I'm pretty sure no one else accesses my account - I checked which computers have logged in and it's just me.

Well a faster route would be when selected the game in library you can click Support tab in the right sidebar, that will take you directly to that particular game's support page.

As for deleting them, if you have never installed the game in the past, then Steam won't actually think you own the game, although it will still say you own the game due to having one of its contents.

I received a free content at one point part of a bundle and due to that I have Dota 2 in my library but I cannot permanently delete it due to I have never actually added the game from the store page.
I suspect you're in the same boat in this matter.

To solve this issue, add the game into your library in Store page, it will say Play Game as opposed to Install Game, don't mind it and click it anyway. Let the game start the installation process, you can cancel the installation, discard it and now the permanently delete option will appear as Steam think you genuinely "purchased" the game license.
Dota 2 is in everyone's library by default and can not be removed.

:qr:
You can't because they are classics and some of the best games on Steam.
Its your fault that you have no taste and don't play them you uncivilized dog.

No surprise that u have no friends either.

Did that make you feel better about yourself?

Anyway - I thought it was really stupid to have to install something to get rid of it, so I'll do to it what I'll do to you. Ignore.

that was always the solution.
+ you might have to remove the game from multiple packs.
Steam support wizard will list them all.
