Need help with possible steam virus. How do you get help from Steam support?
The past 3 computers I've owned have all gained the same virus. Including the one I just built. Steam was the only thing installed besides the basic drivers and the normal stuff that comes with windows. After playing my first game, the virus came back again. It consists of the spamming of dashes in any open field, ex. -------------------... There's no way to stop the virus besides restarting or waiting it out. After the first occurence it randomly shows up until i complete a factory reset where it starts again after the first steam game is played. I am honestly completely lost, I have no idea where to start or who to contact. Steam does not make it easy to contact them so I am looking for help here. If you have any ideas please let me know. I have over $1000 in steam games and I'd rather not lose them by starting a new steam account. I've been through three computers, various anti virus/anti malware scans and multiple keyboards with the virus recurring regardless.

Even if you did make a new account, that would not have anything to do with your games on this account and the infection you seem to be talking about. The infection would be on the PC, not the account.

It's probably a false positive. Have you considered that ?

EDIT..What I mean is, false positive that it is a Steam infection that you are getting from Steam. If you do have an infection, it did not come from Steam files.

Steam does not distribute viruses. But many virus scanners and firewalls detect falsely, some of the game exes and steam files.

Whitelist your Steam folders entirely. Your 'virus from steam' will be gone, bet you.

However, what you describe in your post, is most certainly malware you got from somewhere browsing.

The problem is that there are no other files on this new pc besides steam and windows itself. I have no clue how the same virus from the past 3 computers has found its way back on besides steam.

Besides going to steam, twicth and youtube I have pretty much spent no other time online.
Edit... and due to college classes that's pretty much only been 2 hours worth. And, seeing as though having this same exact virus on 3 other computers just doesn't seem right to me.

It might be your keyboard /related.

They can write more strange things on their own than what you got.

I am hardwired into Google wifi extenders.
However, we have a variety of other computers and other appliances hooked to this router who have never once experienced this problem.

Exclude the keyboard first.

Who on earth would write a virus that can infect any computer or at least a router,
and then typing -------------- with it?

If you are getting this on three different computers, look for common ground that can be relevant.

What hardware is in common or WAS in common at any given time with all the computers ?

EDIT.........

This would be a good start.

We are looking to test this pc with a new fresh keyboard and mouse that has never been used before. We have switched keyboards many many times. However, I have never tried a new keyboard on a freshly factory reset pc. This seems obvious, but when we looked into viruses that may latch to appliances multiple sources said it was unlikely so it wasn't first on the agenda. But now we are most certainly testing that.

i second that..sticky keys can cause this..btw, what keyboard model are you using? Sometimes the manufacturer makes firmware updates on their website for them...

I haven't been given a sticky keys alert since back when I played minecraft frequently about 3 to 5 years ago. And, when it comes to keyboards I have used razor, hp, onn, some Japanese brand and logitech I believe those are all the ones I've had this problem with.
