Account got hacked. Hacker added himself to my friends list and sent himself a gift.
I recently had to change my account password and email, which has never happened to me in the past years of being on steam. Got an email today saying someone accepted my gifted game. I don't know who the person is, but he is on my friends list now. Can I get the gift back? What do I do now?

EDIT: I will be unsubbing from this discussion. I've gotten 0 useful tips, and only people telling me i'm lying and making this up for absolutely no reason. I was hoping for some support on the community forum, but i was wrong to do so.

This is the first time I hear something like this. If this is true and not a bait, then you should contact Steam Support. You aren´t getting your gift back but they will advise you on it.

Gifts can only be refunded by the gifted person, so I am afraid, you won't get your money back.

Propably more important would be to find out, how they got your account data (and remained at least three days unrecognized to be able to send a gift).
Entered your login somewhere? Gave away informations through chat? Or could your computer be infected?

[Edit: And could you explain a little further, what it means, that you "had to change" your password and email adress? Maybe that's the leak.]

This is not a bait. This is the first time this has happened to me.

I opened Steam a few days ago and was logged out. My email and password was changed to something else. The email was different, it started with an S and I don't have any emails with a starting S. Today I got an email saying I sent this random person a gift. In my activity it said I added him a few days ago, which is impossible.

I recently changed it back and reset my password. I also added the steam guard through the steam app.

how did you get email on your email about sent gift when you just claimed ''hacker'' changed your steam email?
youre clearly confused as to how to keep your account safe. dont visit shady websites promising free stuff nor items.

So the events took place both before and after you changed your password. This makes spyware the most likely thing. Run a malware check on your computer.

I changed it back to my email... I don't visit any "shady sites".

you need to be friends with someone for at least 3 days to send them a gift.

what took you so long to lock the account?

There seems to be some confusion in the comments so I'm going to describe in detail what happened as simply as I can.

I open steam. It's logged out. Strange. I type in my password. Doesn't Work. Change password, but the email to change the password is different. I use my cc as verification. I change my email and password. I later get an email about a random person receiving my gift. I then realize that this person is now on my friends list. I don't know this person.

I don't think, we're talking about a phishing case here; these usually go for different strategies. Under different circumstances I would assume, the thread starter had given away his data through chat, but as he was not using a mobile authenticator from the start, this sounds more as if they got access to his email too.

PC infection, I stand by it.

That's what I am talking about - they were in your account at least twice. Once to set up the friend request and change your login, a second time to send the gift. You changed your password inbetween and likely did not actively give away your new one.
There's something on your PC.

Erm, just a thought, that came to my mind: You did not change it back to the SAME password as before, did you?
