Question about GPU temperature
Hello,

So i'm using a ASUS STRIX GTX 950 - 2 GB and i've been wondering if the temps i'm getting are good.

The card's max temp acording to nvidia website says it should be 95'C.

I'm getting about 73'C maximum temperature in games now, but it's summer and outside it's like 33'C in the shade. In winter i get about 71'C maximum temperature in games.

It is about 3 years old i think, but it has served me very well and i really like this GPU so i'm trying not to damage it.

I know the STRIX version of the card is supposed to more cooler but just thought i'd ask. I don't mean to show off or anything, but just wanted to ask.

73 is easily within tolerance levels.

:qr:
Normally it doesn't go above 71-72'C but now being summer, i suppose it's normal to go like 2'C higher.

Also another question. I'm using an FX 8300 CPU and it always hits like 70'C in games. Is this normaly CPU temp ?

I have a BEQUIET Shadow Rock cooler on it to make it cooler, but wanted to ask anyway.

I've been told by some people that this temp is normal for CPU and they can handle up to 90'C because the FX series tend to run hotter.
Forgot to mention : CPU hits 70'C but now that it's summer i noticed it also goes about 2'C higher and hits about oncern is should i be worried about these temps ?72'C max temp.

Should i be worried regarding temps for GPU and CPU ?

That's also fine.

Its actually not. The max temperature recommended for the AMD FX series of CPU is 65 degrees. After that they can get damaged over time.

GPU is fine, my RTX 2080 can hit 80+ degrees under full load. As long as you dont reach 90+ you dont need to worry.
Your CPU is another case, the FX series is not meant to get very hot, i would recommend exchanging the thermal paste on that CPU or getting a better cooler.

Only worry if it's above 90 degrees.
Usually 85 degrees is the point when you should consider dusting it out.

I searched a bit and it turns out these are the maximum temps for FX series

FX 8300 - 70'C

FX 8320 - 61'C

FX 8350 - 61'C

65'C is probably bad for the FX 8320 and FX 8350.

But the FX 8300 max temp is 70'C. I know my FX 8300 goes above max temp because it hits all the time 70'C and now that it's summer it hits max 72'C.

But I also asked someone else who works at an IT service and really know a lot about components and he also said that i shouldn't worry only if it hits like 85'C or more. He also said that the FX series (all of them not just the FX 8300) are build to withstand enormous amounts of heat and they always tend to run hotter, that's why he said i shouldn't worry unless it goes above 85'C.

I'm not using the stock cooler, i'm using a BEQUIET Shadow Rock LP cooler, when i bought the CPU, they recommended this one because it has a top-down blowing design.

your it guy is a bit wrong there or rather outdated. amd is known for being toasty, that is why he probably said that. fx cpus are the opposite. you dont hit much higher temps because that thing already throttles.

your cooler is tiny and probably equal or even worse then the stock cooler.

which is unfortunalty a reason to change the seller because a top down blowing type cooler saves space but is ineffective compared to coolers that go with the airflow (taking cold air from the front and pushing hot air through the back).

an AMD FX CPU should never be able to hit 85C because it should heavily throttle or commence an emergency shut down already befor that.
They not tend to run hotter, not hotter then other CPU's they just not as tolerent as other CPU's which normally rated up to 100C. AMD released their rated temperature for a reason. Its normal that youc an slightly cross the ratings but thats at a point where security measures already take place as thermal throtteling.

exactly - time to fire those "specialist".
well. basicly every other athlon cpu made this a "standard thing", i legitimately used them as an oven for warming up food on lan parties.

that thing was my companion for about a year.
specified max temp 95°C. just .. there was no thermal protection :=) so it ran 100+ most of the time. of course it died.
Most gpus tolerate 70c ridiculously well, so I'm not sure where that guy was getting any information, it's blatantly false and likely trying to sell fans or something... >_>

Worry when it approaches 90 to 100c. Rarely worry below 80, and 70 is just fine, normal operating temperature for most components these days.

I mean, if there's a concern, open up the rig and make sure that it's got lots of air flow and cooling, but... 70 is fine.

Everything is fine.

:qr:

This would only be perfect if it was paired with a GPU sitting at a table with 105c degree fire around it :D
