Want to refund a standard edition to buy a more expensive edition
Hi, I had recently pre-ordered Destiny 2: Shadowkeep which is the standard edition for €35. However, lately I've been wanting to buy the Deluxe Edition instead. The problem is that I've already purchased the Standard Edition, meaning that I have to refund it.
My biggest fear is; if I end up asking for a refund, then buy the Deluxe Edition and play it tomorrow upon launch then I might not be eligible for a refund of the Standard Edition because the playtime on Destiny 2: Shadowkeep could have been registered on the Standard Edition even though I bought Deluxe. If I get my refund approved and then pre-order the Deluxe Edition, will the playtime on the game no longer register on the Standard Edition?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

You definitely need to wait till your refund has been granted before buying the Deluxe Edition.
But usually its just a few hours till Steam Support grants a refund request.
As soon as its granted and the refund money is pending you can buy the Deluxe Edition without any worry.

If you buy the Deluxe Edition BEFORE the refund request has been granted, you only get the missing items of the Deluxe Edition added to your already existing Standard Edition.

Thank you very much for the help! So just to clarify, what you're saying is that I need to get my refund request approved and as soon as it has been accepted by Valve then I can purchase the Deluxe Edition and play it on launch? The pending refund money for the standard edition will eventually come back to my account after some time even if my playtime on Destiny 2(using the Deluxe Edition) goes over 2 hours, right?

when you have pending money (and the positive refund answer), then everything the refund was about is already removed from your account at that point.

Thanks, I think I have a better understanding of this now. If I ask for a refund on my debit card, will a simple acceptance of the refund request mean that the refund money for the Standard Edition is pending?

yes, the answer and if positive, the return transactions and removal of the products from your account are basically done at the same time. so the answer is enough.

the "pending money" thing only happens with refunds to Steam wallet. it can just be used as an additional visual confirmation that the refund was done.
