Steam Key help?

So, I can't seem to find a solution to a question of mine.

So I want to get Modern Warfare 3 for my Mac. Say I purchase the CD key for MW3, but it is for PC (according to what is says on the box), would I be able to redeem that key for the Mac version of MW3?

Basically, are steam CD keys universal across platforms or are they platform specific?

Referring to purchasing it from an outside source. I should have mentioned that.

the game is a steam game, regardless of where it came from.

and it also supports both wondows and mac. you could have it on a mac and pc.

Even if it doesn't work, a ''emulator'' for windows programs might help I would suggest Wine Bottler.

I would ask on their forums to see if anyone has first hand experience with cross-platforming with that game, but I'd be cautious.

the game OP asks about does have "steamplay". i just mentioned the only exception i know of that would require 2 purchases to play it on windows and mac.

if you look for the word "steamplay" on the storepage. they removed it, because it confused people.
