Steam DELETES my games without permission.
I bought and downloaded Elder Scrolls Online a couple days ago and played it with no problem whatsoever.

I log on today and find that the game is completely deleted from my steam game's list. This is the fifth time this has happened to a game in my folder. Usually I'll just cut/paste whatever files are left over and reinstall in ten seconds. But this time I couldn't find ANYTHING in my drive. It was as if all memory of this game was erased from my computer. What the ♥♥♥♥ Steam?

Xbox live never does this crap.

Run a diagnostic of the drive it was installed on. In most cases this is due to a failing drive or the system not being shut down correctly.

This suggests you are doing this often to fix this problem. However, this is not normal behavior at all for Steam and games.

You should be able to install a game and play it without having to do this at all.

Is this an external drive by any chance ?

It's my D drive and I already did a full diagnostic of both my C and D drives and then checked for Malware or anything else that would have caused it. Because I thought the problem had to be on my end. A few people on my friendslist have had this same problem but it was solved by just installing the game again after moving the data in the common folder to the downloading one.

That is already a problem, since Steam (reasonably so) employs a "super non-nerdish user" apporach: you click a button, and the game downloads/runs. You NEVER have to move files around or anything like that. If that's "needed", something is already broken on your end.

Installed games are appearing as uninstalled

This does not answer this.......

And does not clarify if you are or are not doing this.....

Are you exiting Steam properly and allowing the program to close before shutting down your computer, for example ?

As the good Kargor said, something on your end is messed up.

1. What is your operating system.

2. Identify the computer. Model number and model. Unless custom built, then post the exact motherboard instead, please.

3. Is the operating system 32 or 64 bit ?

EDIT...as you can see, the external drive question is common in these situations.

Because it is important information.

Bro I answered that it wasn't an external drive. I have a C and D drive. Neither are external. I shut down Steam AND my computer properly every time due to weird stuff like this happening in the past on other devices.

I have Win 8.1, ASUS GTX 960m with 16gb of RAM intel I7

I would have mentioned if I have an external drive.

I redownloaded from scratch and haven't had a problem since. But it's still weird that this game completely deleted itself in the span of a day. Though it's happened before to games on my list over the span of three different machines. This is the main reason I suspect it's not on my end due to the fact it's happened on my current computer, my last computer, and the one before that. It just doesn't make sense that something like this can happen on multiple systems and it being on my end.

Also the whole "non nerdish" approach to files is laughable. If you have steam and haven't ever opened file manager to delete steamclient.blob or something due to a connection ♥♥♥♥♥♥ or moe something around due to an error I'd be extremely surprised.

I've been on Steam for 11 years and this has not happened to me once.

Then you've had an extremely stellar experience with Steam.

I get that the occasional error happens, though, so I'm not too mad now that I redownloaded ESO but I want to find out why this has happened more than once on several different machines.

First of all, I read the whole thread over again. You never said these drives were not external. Simply saying they are your C and D drives does not mean they are internal. You can assign hard drives any letter you want.

Second of all, to further illustrate how you miss questions in posts, your next reply did not answer number 3 of my questions previously......

I have come to the habbit these days of actually posting them in seperate questions, because for some strange reason, when I ask someone their operating system, they seem to think that simply answering with what Windows it is completly answers that question.....and it doesn't.

When I go to a manufacturer's website to search for device drivers for a user, I need to know the FULL operating system. Can't accurately search until I do.

Please.............Please, when people take the time to reply to your help requests, read the replies and answer the questions IN those replies. Otherwise, we have to ask all over again and frankly with all due respect, it is very annoying.

If you want more help on the possible issues that can cause this, please answer that part in your next post. Thanks.

It really kind of does answer your question. I thought that it was agiven that I am using a 64 bit OS considering I said I'm using more than 3 GB of RAM. I wasn't even aware that 32 bit Operating Systems are still being manufactured in today's market. If they are I haven't seen them since the days of Emachines.

Forgive me for not mentioning that my C and D drives are both internal I also thought it was relatively common for computers to have partitions.

Over 2 weeks later and you reply now ?

Also, yes, I know the deal with how RAM works and a 32 bit OS. But I don't like to make assumptions. Some people out there may actually have, (and we have seen that before here) more than 4 GB of RAM in thier system and install a 32 bit OS on it. So I prefer to make sure, please.

"Windows 8.1 32 bit"

https://www.google.com/search?q=Windows+8.1+32+bit&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Since it's been 2 weeks, I have to read the whole thread over again to get my head around the issue again.

And you still have not provided all that was requested.

How are we supposed to search for drivers and hardware information on devices in the computer without knowing what exact computer or motherboard that you have ?

I just got home from being deployed to Florida for the relief so yeah it just so happens I reply two weeks later.

As for specific model number and model? It is irellevant since I have stated it has happened on a variety of different computers over time. It's an issue with Steam and nothing more.

Sorry about that and no, sorry, but it is not an issue with Steam. If Steam was the problem, the forums would be blowing up right now with thousands upon thousands of others posting about it.

I have had Steam on everything from XP to Windows 7, going on 10 years here, and never seen my games just up and disappear. That is a cause from your system there, not with Steam.
