RAM: Can 2 dual channel kits operate as a quad channel kit?

Hello all,

I currently own the Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400 C14. I am thinking about upgrading to 16GB RAM, but I am not sure if it will work when I buy another Corsair kit (the same I own). It can also be that I have to sell my dual channel kit and buy a completely new quad channel kit.

My motherboard has 4 RAM slots by the way so a quad channel in general should not be a problem.

Does your mainboard & CPU actually have 4 memory channels, or just 4 slots with 2 channels?
Anyway, kits don't mean jack. If you have 4 identical modules, it'll work, no matter if they're kitted or not. Assuming your system has 4 channels, of course.

A motherboard having 4 slots and a motherboard supporting quad channel are two different things.

Aside from that, yes, they can. There's nothing special about kits other than they have been tested to work together. But most memory will work together at the same settings anyway.

4 DIMMs, yes. Now where do you read "4 channels"? Because ive just been to Asus.com and it clearly states "4 DIMMs, 2 channels".

The difference is that in case of 4 channels, 4 requests can be handled simultaneously and not 2.
