File Detection *FIXED*
I recently bought Black Desert Online. Due to slow very slow internet speeds, i usually go to my uncle's house and download games on my laptop then use an external hard drive to tranfer to my desktop. Steam usually is really good about detecting the files as i have done this with many other of my games (Black OpsIII, KF2, Garry's mod, ect). The problem is that for some reason, Black Desert Online files dont want to work. When I put them in the common folder with all my other games and try to install, steam goes about detecting the files normally but when it finishes, it wants to download all 50gb of the game over again, even though it has detected the files already.

I have made sure that the file is the right size and didnt get messed up some how(51gb). and tried to launch the .exe of the game from the folder in order to detect. What else can i do to make it not want to download the 51 gb when theyre already there?

TLDR: Got BDO, put files in directory from external hard drive, steam detects them, then wants to download all files even though theyre already there.

You also need to copy over the appmanifest file which tells Steam that a game is installed.
For most games it can work without and Steam just recognizes that there are already files on the HDD. But that does not work with all games and BDO seems to be such a game.
The appmanifest files are in your Steam installation folder under steamapps/

The appmanifest number for BDO is 582660 so look for a appmanifest file with that number and copy it over to your pc at the same location. Then restart Steam. After that Steam should recognize BDO as installed.

It does, but the main game downloads over Steam, the launcher only downloads patches after starting the game.
