Tech Support Request: I made a purchase to gift that ended up in my library.
I made a purchase from Humble Bundle (XCOM 2), and wanted to gift it using the steam client rather than through the Humble gifting client.

Usually when I activate a product on Steam, it gives me the option to add it to my inventory so that I can give it to someone else. This time, without warning, it did not, and instead just dropped it in my library.

I have not played the game. I do not intend to play the game. I do not intend to install the game. I have zero hours playing the game.

I want to remove the game from my library (XCOM 2) and put it in my inventory so that I can gift the game.

Barring that, I want to remove the game from my library (XCOM 2) and restore the validity of the license so that I can give it to someone else via another vector.

I am frustrated that I cannot contact a Steam technician through the regular steam support channels to process this request, given there is no other option through Steam Support to process a situation like this, so I'm forced to beg the public on the forum. WTF Steam?

That said, if you know a better way to contact Steam technicians than this, please advise.

Regarding getting this game (XCOM 2) out of my library and into a giftable format, please advise.

Thank you.

"once a key is activated it is bound to that account forever", agree

It seems that a lot of the argument is based on

. As I said before, I have activated products which and been cued to either add it to my library or my inventory)
.
If that were true I could see it being an easy mistake to make. Do you have any evidence of being able to do that in the past through Steam? I've never seen that option before, but I've only been here since 2012

Or, someone from Steam Support can actually get back to me. Here. As I was told to do.
That statement means your issue is not covered by support, so you should seek help with fellow users. Help you don't want to accept, so I referred you back to support.

It's perfectly possible to contact support on issues they do cover. You however, are screwed. Your only chance is miss filing a ticket under a different issue, which will get you the support staff response you crave, but the end result will still be a game stuck on your account. Your best chance to resolve this is to talk to the humble bundle guys. They might be able to help you.

Lastly, good luck with the consumer organizations. Valve ignores them all unless they're actively being sued.

why he was suspicious of the legitimacy of my game licenses.
Because traditionally only gifts offer that option, and gifts aren't sold through legitimate sites. Keys don't and never have offered the ability to add them to the inventory. I suppose that the Steam api link humble uses these days might offer the ability to add to the inventory. It's been a while since I bought there.

humble has an own gifting option and next to it is the button to display the cd key, if you click that it also tells you that you will not be able to gift the game any longer.

dunno what OP expected.

wuddih, the friend (the giftee) checks his email less than he goes on Steam, so a Steam gift would get to him immediately, while a Humble gift could take a day or so.

And having seen the option to inventory processed games, I thought this would be the better way to do it.

Obviously not. And I admit I may be confusing the options one gets when one receives games (I was recently gifted Firewatch -- Christmas and all) with the options one gets when entering a key.

Still confusing at least to me. I was confused.

When I went through the Support tree, I saw the ability to remove titles from the library, so I know Steam can do that. It sounds like only an accounting adjustment to add a title back to my library.

If not, then yeah, this could end up being an expensive mistake.

Removing a game from your library does not remove the key from your account.
That's a very big difference.
Even after you "removed" a game, you can restore it at any time by repeating the steps you used to remove a game.

To be fair, this isn't the last resort. I still can contact the Valve corporate office, which may prove to be really inconvenient for them. I can still research third-party sites that keep track of alternate routes to customer service (which have specifically formed to handle companies that disregard their customers) And as you suggested, I can consider extralegal means to settle the matter.

Those of us who actually have legitimate grievances, left forgotten, will consider alternative vectors by which to resolve our issues, some of which might not be in the best interests of Valve Corporation.

be aware that, if you are threatening a lawsuit towards valve for this, you will lose. you have no justifiable cause to do so. everything you need to know more about this is here...

good luck in the future.

Humble gift emails take all of 5 seconds to generate

You can also email the URL directly to the users.

It does not take 'a day or so' unless you are snail mailing the link written on toilet paper wrapped around a carrier pigeons leg.

Obviously not. And I admit I may be confusing the options one gets when one receives games (I was recently gifted Firewatch -- Christmas and all) with the options one gets when entering a key

Entering a key has NEVER allowed you to make a giftable copy. Ever. This option has NEVER existed. So your magically assertion entering a key gave you an option to do so is patently false.

When I went through the Support tree, I saw the ability to remove titles from the library, so I know Steam can do that. It sounds like only an accounting adjustment to add a title back to my library.

And if you read that you'd see that doing so does not free up the cd-key that is used. Or are you again having a problem with the whole 'reading what you want' thing. Because that seems to be all you're doing.

Satoru are you affiliated with Steam? Are you Valve personnel? Are you A Steam Support tecnician? Do you have any authority at all to speak for the Steam content distribution service, or Valve Corporation?

Do you have eyes. Are you able to read? Because everyone has linked to the documentation provided.

If the answer to all of these is no, then you are answering a question that has not been asked, and attempting to deliberately misinform me.

Note you have been provide the correct answers. You not liking the correct answer

Do not say it can't be done. If Scott Lynch wanted this fixed, it would be fixed. It can be done.

No it will not be done. Period.

Do not say Steam will not do it for you unless you have the authority to represent the steam service.

Steam does not transfer license nor unhooks cd-keys from accounts.

Do not tell me what it says in the Steam agreement that might indicate that I cannot do that.

I told you what the process of registereing a cd-key tells you in the process.

Did you read that? No! Is it your fault? Yes.

Satoru, are you a Steam Support technician?

Are you reading anything people are telling you. Because you seem to not actually want to read.

If you want somone from "Valve corporation" to answer you

https://help.steampowered.com/en/

Make a ticket and whine there. Your inability to read is your own problem. Steam does not do what you want to do. It CANNOT be done. It WILL NOT be done. Period. The process outright tells you the game will be added to your library. You chose to ignore that.

You have been given the answer. You simply don't like it. Suck it up.

your steam account is nine years old.
and you click the button "Activate a Product on Steam" for the first time?

"To register your product with Steam and add it to your Steam library, enter the product code[..]"

yeah.

You're not a special snowflake. There's not one set of rules for you and everybody else. You screwed up. Buy it again, give the key to your friend. The end.

Contact humble bundle and tell them that they should revert the purchase and remove the key from steam.
So you can buy it as a gift from humble.

They're not going to revert the purchase because as per their TOS its a non-refundable bundle purchase. they activated the bundle early to get Xcom2, its now non-refundable. Period.
