Alert-Sound but no message or invite
Pretty self-explanatory....
I'm Definitely hearing sounds as if someone had messaged me on Steam, but when I pull up the overlay or alt-tab to friends/chat window - Nothing.
If I didn't already have chat open, No window would pop up for the invite/message
If I did, it doesn't blink and nothing would be updated.

Tried asking/informing a couple people who talk to me more commonly than most but there doesn't seem to be a really straight forward answer here, So I'm getting tired of not knowing and posting here to try and see if anyone else has had a similar issue and if anyone else knows "what" or "why"

playing a game that has servers that allow the owner to put custom motd's?

then you probably just heard it because of that.

Negative.

There's been times I've heard it outside of any game at all.
And I'm positive it isn't from the webpage in question that I'm on at any time those occurred

Most of the games I've heard it within with no result - They don't have such a MOTD system in place that would use it nor make sense to use it - let alone the fact that it isn't restricted to one game nor any game at all.

That said. I do have my suspicions that its originating From Dota....

Most Invites I get for games are for Dota - and that's not always from a Friend I've actually got on my friends list.

Everyone else on my friends list that doesn't play dota, They normally just talk if anything, No invites usually.

Afaik. Neither Steam nor Dota are set to block invites from non friends, nor mesasges - In dota, there's specific options to filter something like that out, but I don't have it checked, I looked, earlier after I'd gotten a few of them just sitting around doing other things.

and Like the couple of people I tried checking with, I also wrote a post in Dota trying to question this and to tell them to send me a message as well if they're trying to invite me to Dota and I don't respond

part of My Suspicion is that either something in Steam's friend/community code changed, and its stopping invites/messages for Dota 2 while I'm not in dota 2
Or something in Dota 2's code changed (or got corrupted) and its stopped sending/allowing them, despite not having it disabled in the options...

But I can't swear for sure it has anything to do with that. There's been people in Dota 2 (on my f-list) each time - But they should also have seen my in-game post if it were them.

It may possibly have been Store/Wishlist/follow activity updates....
I turned off the notification but apparently before finalizing I musta hit sound or left sound on - so it had no way to show anything but noise.
I had another sound after I thought that could be it, and did happen to have a nearly on time recent post from something I'm following the updates of...

I don't intentionally turn on the Notifications or Sounds for things I'm "following" - since they decided its important to make them "surface override" and drop any window I'm in down, regardless, so I kinda just glanced over the section when looking for the issue. Unfortunately.. I don't see this being fixed permanently for me any time soon - every so often, a random community downtime or steam crash (power out) seems to reset my community settings and cause a spam and a half of notifications that I've turned off to bombard me (Playing game, Join game, come online are all on when it resets, and I like them off cause they're annoying popping up during games and etc)

So anyway... Hopefully case solved, I'll just have to wait till the next one to know.
