Will my friend or I get banned using Family Sharing to share games?
Hey there, I was curious if my friend or I could get in trouble for using Family Sharing to share games?
I'm not talking VAC but more like could steam lock lock his or my accounts?

No. Unless one of you gets banned for cheating, etc.

If you are asking about VAC bans......

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7849-RADZ-6869&l=english#share

"Will I be punished if someone sharing my Library cheats?"

Your Family Sharing privileges may be revoked and your account may also be VAC banned if your library is used by others to cheat. Additionally, VAC-banned games cannot be shared between accounts. We recommend you only authorize Steam Accounts and computers you know to be secure, and as always, never give out your password to anyone or share your account.

I was asking about in general. I know about VAC and family sharing but I want to be sure what we are doing isn't burried in any EULA or ToS

Probably would have been good to cover what you meant in the opening post then, with all due respect.

Family sharing is a feature on Steam. Why do you worry they would ban you for something that is offered as part of the content and services ?

I suggest you read up on Family Sharing, of course, and how exactly it works if you are unsure.

Basic rule is, as long as no one is doing anything wrong, you got nothing to worry about.

Yeah, that's not entirely correct. You would need to cheat in a VAC enabled game in order to piss off valve for using cheat engine. I use it in non VAC SINGLE PLAYER games all the time and haven't been banned. Will never use it in MP though because SCREW MP cheaters and I don't like MP games at all.
TL;DR As long as you cheat in NON VAC enabled, non MP games, you won't get banned for using Cheat Engine or other such tools

Just to add something to this.

Family sharing is INTENDED as exactly that - FAMILY sharing. That's not to say you can't share with whoever. There's no genetic testing going on here after all ;)

Just be ABSOLUTELY sure you can trust the other party concenred because us regulars on these forums have seen many times people complain either they got VAC banned for this reason as it turned out their BESTEST FREIND IN THE WORLD wasn't quite all of that.

So I'm not having a go, but just take care!

Oh I agree, you really need to be careful about who you share your library with, and that includes family members too.
