Of course, Nya is right, until all the facts are nailed down, I don't see all that many publishers rushing to develop for a new platform. Too many uncertainties. Particularly if it means foregoing the most widely used API in favour of another. One thing to bear in mind is that one of the major consoles is still going to be utilising DirectX, so it stands reason that it'd be the basis for any PC port of a console game. As someone who doesn't know very much about the technical aspects of such things, I honestly don't know how big an issue that this would be.
This is either going to be a huge shake-up of the PC-using community, not just from a gaming point of view, or a bit of a damp squib for Valve.
Rockstar not releasing GTAV on PC at launch is very very typical of them and they have been doing it since basically GTA3. It has nothing to do with Windows 8.
Every Publisher and developer will pick up Linux if and only if there is an extreme demand. We are talking a huge market share shift from Windows to Linux. Valve getting some AAA Developers/Publishers on board could mean that's the catalyst for the shift.
The most likely candidates for Valve's "AAA" Group doing games for Linux/SteamOS is probably EA Games, Activision, and probably something from 2k. Square Enix is on the verge of bankruptcy if they don't change and I doubt they are going to risk doing anything related to Linux unless there is a demand.
EA Supporting Linux/SteamOS from the start means more users for Origin. Especially if they get on board quickly. Although they could play the waiting game and see if it all takes off before putting in the money and effort for a Linux distro. Activision has shown support for PC Launches a lot in the past.. so I can see them doing something.
There is already a thread discussing the SteamOS.
