Age of Empires 2 HD - too expensive
Hello there!

Just like a lot of my friends, I am willing to buy Age of Empires 2 HD. But youre selling it much too expensive.

This game is VERY OLD... the new resolution is a neat feature, which Ive been waiting for. Being able to use multiplayer on Steam with my friends is also a feature Id love to use.

The "normal price" of this game should be about 10 euros. Not even.

Why dont you bring it in the sale -75% ?

I am waiting for that since the whole summer sale started.

Publishers set pricing, not Valve. And from what I heard, there's more content than just a "new resolution".
EDIT: Yes, I just checked the forums for it, and it is indeed under constant development. It's not just an "old game", it's essentially a full-fledged remake.

I'm agreed with you, but i think that we'll have to wait until the "Winter Sales :postcardf:"

I mean... games must be designed first.
This takes months, maybe even years and costs some million dollars.
Thats why most games cost about 20 - 50 when they are released.

But in this case, most of the game was already there, since 1999, when the first Age of Empires 2 came out.

Most programming, balancing, designing units, making up the graphics.. everything was already there.

There was just a team needed, to adapt this excellent game to modern technics, state of the art resolution and Steam Multiplayer.

So come on! We want this!

But not for this price!

It's really more complicated than just that. The code has to be ported, and checked and double-checked that it works, which can take months. The art needs to be completely redone, no just scaling-up. And new content is being added all the time.

On a personal note, if I had money left, I'd totally buy it for $14. And many people agree with me.

Most of the remakes, and HD versions, are totally different code bases. They've just made a new game, that happens to look and play like an existing one. There are some that do use some of the same code, but crap tons more has been added in to allow for better graphics.

They had the Age of Empires Legacy Bundle on sale for $15-$17 the a day or so ago. Thye also had a bigger sale for AOE2.

AOE2HD is in the community picks, and I did catch a glimpse at 66% off, and was like $6.xx, but looks like it was reverted back to 50%.

How many years did we see the old version sitting around at a high price on store shelves? Too many! I already have multiple copies of it, and can wait it out in the digital age, which does not seem to have the same shelf live of a boxed copy. Only time will tell on this one.

AOE2 was a great game. If it's actually being developed with this HD version, that's good, but otherwise we can just wait for a sale price.
5 years later and I am asking my self the same question... the game goes for 39€ (!!!) right now.

Ask the publisher as it was stated in the very first reply.

5 years later and you still haven't picked it up on sale when the collection dropped to EUR 10 and the base game to EUR 5-4.

Answer has not changed in those 5 years, so I don't see why you felt a need to bump this thread.

Developers set the price. Contact them if you want a lower price or wait for a sale.

The game is actually worth as much in my opinion. Not sure how much AoE 3 is right now or if it is more or less expensive than AoE 2 but 3 has barely any content. AoE 2 has remastered graphics, it has Steam Workshop for literally hundreds or thousands of custom maps, scenarios, graphical mods and so on, there is much, much more DLC for the game now.

Achievements when not cheating will take you over 1000 hours easily, the campaigns are the same as the previous 1995 version but they are good compared to - wait, is there a comparison to an AoE game except for its Prequel/Sequels? Also the DLC campaigns are really well done.

The only negative points on this game are purely personal opinion and very limited. Also rule #1 on Steam is don't buy a game unless it is on sale.

Also I agree with Spawn of Totoro, why necro a 5 year old thread lol :D:
