Is the old Big Picture mode gone for good??
The new version is just a seemingly 1:1 port of the steamdeck UI, which is cool, but the old Big Picture mode was SOOOOOO much better for a PC, especially with its big UI elements that make it easier to use when sitting further away.

Is there a way to toggle it back, or will I just have to drop out of the beta, and savor it while it lasts?

It's gone in the beta, yes.

The new console interface is easy to read from the couch as well. Been using my Deck as a TV gaming machine for months.

for some the console interface is fine ... but many of us prefer the original BPM on PC, not being console gamers.
So you like the old console interface but not the new because you are PC gamers. Riiiiiiighttt....... That's totally not double standards.

show me where original BPM was billed as a console interface ... https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/3725-76D3-3F31-FB63

my son had xbox and ps4 here before he moved into his own place. the new UI reminds me of those interfaces.

They definitely made sure they didn't say anything about "console" in the marketing.

old BPM was named "tenfoot" and its main goal was to be used on a bigger display and its full controller support.

while still being available now, down the line it will probably no longer being maintained as there is no reason to do so as new BPM replaces all functions and more.

so ... file for divorce early.

Show me where the new BP is billed as a console interface.

Besides, I'm an engineer, not a lawyer. I don'T give two ♥♥♥♥♥ what stuff is called, I care what stuff is & does and both the old and new BP are console-like TV-friendly interfaces.

Both of those are console-like interfaces. I said "new console interface" to differentiate from the old one.

i wanna revert to the old big picture mode also.
there are fundamentals steam has missed with their implementation.. such as your pc monitor being 16:10 and your tv that you're streaming to being 16:9.. it just pipes the 16:10 image, with letterboxes, and the controller loses focus on the app at startup and the windows taskbar and other os elements are bleeding into the experience. there is currently no option to change the resolution. not sure why this isn't a glaringly obvious bug more people aren't complaining about.

I don't use either of them.. I use a monitor makes life easier.

I really hope they keep the -oldbigpicture switch
I don't really use the pigpicture mode itself but the Keyboard is freakin atrocious.

you can't even reach every part of it with the steam controller as the touchpad just ends b4 you get there - the ^ (top left most key) on a german keyboard ist just unreachable for example

I never liked old Big Picture mode.. especially when accidentally clicking something would open it when I didn't want it to. Hopefully the Steam Deck's success will bring some better innovations.

Thank you for this. My steam just updated itself and it forced the less-featured new BPM on me.

No way to customize controller in full as in old BP that used steam control. That let me use my controller's gyroscope as a mouse for the menus.
Can't turn off annoying menu sounds (in old BPM you could even change it's volume compared to just having an On-Of switch).
Audio is buggy on the interface.
Overall much less customizable.

What? How do I do this -oldbigpicture? Where to write it?

Oh thank you Jesus, we're back baby! That new thing was nightmare garbage!
