Um, I use Steam because that's where I play most of my games, not because it has a ton of "social features"
You can't speak for everyone when you do not know everyone and the reasons for why they use/do etc certain things.
Discord is just over hyped. If I get a game on Steam, I'd like the info/news relating to that game, on here, not on Discord.
Also, you can talk/text/stream/video chat/send stuff from a phone and other things, Discord isn't special.
It's just the thing most Devs use because they are too lazy to post news/updates about their game on here and they want to drive Steam users to their Discords/Patreons for important/much needed news/info to avoid having to post it on here.
I don't use it either. Discord/Patreon crap should stay where they belong, off of Steam.
News feeds, social features.
Etc.
I am guessing it's because Discord is easier to control others with. Discord acts more like a chat than a forum. This makes people more likely to post short messages and nonsense (memes, music, etc.)- some people associate this with 'a party', but discord is designed for discussing stuff much like any communication platform mainly; including acting as a game chat to discuss moves or joke about what is happening.
The thing is, discord doesn't moderate itself and although it does have moderators, before discord takes action several months have to pass. A moderator / admin is in full control
They can restrict a user from seeing certain fora (chat groups), publicly humiliate them without Steam Moderation warning them or stopping them ('make an example of them, when caught 'red handed' ') -- discord is filled with trash practically.
You very easily get an instant permanent ban. There is a lot of powertripping going on there.
Some moderators like to use a three strike system, but they treat other discord users like pets and houseplants that 'have to obey', and so... here's how their three strike system usually goes. "They see an url" (some servers don't like links to youtube or other embedded stuff, and will ban you for it.)
The bot automatically removes it instantly and you don't even notice that it got through, yet you still get a warning for it, so you say "oh sorry." to keep it short.
yet they press on "You didn't read the rules." (after a year its easy to forget.), second warning.
"I just forgot, that's all.", "Now you're making a scene, clearly..." third rule broken.
and then you get banned.
One other issue is that these moderators often also moderate the steam forums, so you get banned there for no reason.
Note: Moderation is to "moderate" escalations happening within a community, or to 'moderate' the public perception / image someone gets of the community; not to create a space with only one line of thought and fantasy.
Moderators on discord tend to abuse their 'power' to create their own Bed Room (not even a living room), rather than a community; despite their rules usually saying something like "All Inclusive"
Discord allows bot integration, meaning they can create games for people to keep chatting- even though this completely distracts from it functioning as a means for developers to gather comments and reviews from others (publicly).
Discord has "stamps", "emoticons", etc. although most of this fluff is paywalled behind "nitro".
Despite offering voice chat and streaming features, these are rarely used. It's just post a random message, video or an image (memes).

there are alternatives which are more secure, including federated social networks and the matrix network.
I think the more public slack is more secure, but practically its also a discord clone.
Discord itself is basically a whatsapp clone.
The biggest issue I see is the lack of care for the community (the members); its very easy for someone to get scammed or their account and other info hijacked on discord. Messages should at the very least be encrypted.
Also Discord File Sharing is 10MB? It's rediculously low. Even old Skype offered more. Practically it's useless with a lot of cases.
I tried bug testing for someone once through discord, and... with text explanations and images, you're very limited; so I made videos actually showing the problem... and most of the time I had to cut them up, even with crazy compression to get them send over because 'no nitro'. yeah...
that is despite discord not keeping everything on their server forever.
So the topic wasn't to inquire why discord is used but to get others to agree that you don't enjoy using it? I don't use discord much myself except the few times I do, so I see some use for it, but I certainly couldn't ask others who do use it more robustly "why?" then proceed to only accept answers that agree with me not using it often.
Why would I want to use it, if all it has is just some redundant social stuff? I need games, not social interaction.
Also one simple click on your profile in fact proves you do use it's social features and are a liar. Go figure.
