Exchange of gems for booster packs.
Am I the only one who wishes the booster packs cost a bit less with gems (100 gems per pack or 80 max).

I am not even interested in the auction, I just want to finish badges of games I love to play.

I wouldn't buy booster packs with gems.
i would use the steam market and buy them directly. gems are a huge waste of money.

one background of TF2 is worth 100 Gems... then one background = 3 cards O.o..
And all the card may even be foil if you lucky..

Do not think that will work very well

Is not really a waste of money if you have repeats and icons you never cared (Specially if you are limited to sell 100 items a year).
The only problem I have is the price they place on them.

That really depends on the boosterpacks/cards you are looking for.

The down side of this event (read: greed driven market correction) is that it will raise the price of most of the lower end items. The plus side is it should lower the price and increase the availability of the ultra rare cards via forged booster.

well it depends how you see that, its a plus for sellers :D:

I'm not sure if I would say it is exactly a plus for sellers, more "rare" cards on the market means the price is going to drop. So they will be selling them but they will be selling them for less. Alternatively that also means that anyone can pick up a pack of boosters or a bag of gems and gamble for the card they want. So booster and gem prices will also play a factor in the pricing of cards.

Price them much higher than boosters/gems and people will just buy boosters and gems.

It's cards that are not truly "rare" in terms of supply and demand that will "suffer", or rather correct. I have a few games where card avaialbility is in the thousands, cards are priced ~35¢ or higher now, couple of months ago as high as ~$1 for lowest seller, and a very small comparative buyer pool in the hundreds with minimal high bids around 20¢ and the bulk under 15¢. Those "rare" markets are going to crumble. One such set, I have enough cards (though no badge yet) to sell, right now, at highest buy order, for $12 if I wanted to liquidate them. At the lowest sell order, undercutting the next sell by 1¢, I'd make twice that, but I'd probably have to sit on all of those cards for months before the last sold. This disparity should be corrected as people craft their own boosters, get doubles, an pound out those "freebies" 1¢ lower, and lower, and lower.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
