Hoxhud Backdoor malware? (PAYDAY2)
I recently attempted to install the mod "hoxhud" and i selected the auto launcher, and installed it
(ive gotten lots of good reports on it from steam friends) so blah blah im downloading it and windows wants to know if i want to give it access (overkill approved it, what could go wrong?) i get no notifications from adblock, spyware, OR any of my 6 virus protection programs. i install it, send it towards my payday folder and then i see in the bottom right, "your computer could be at risk" and its a notification from spyware so i click it.. it says you have installed a program that could have unwanted malware involved. i let spyware take 4 nice scans, just to be safe, taking up 2 hours and i come back to 233 freaking viruses. 233 of them. i get to a good 5 hours or so of deinstallation and its mostly gone, i think spyware missed a couple. im still looking at it though, i think spyware missed some. if your thinking about getting the mod, put some thought into it first because if you install it, it scans your purchased games, steam ID and such. this could be worrysome because if it has that information it has other information from your PC/laptop.

6? 6 AV programs?

If they run at the same time, it's likely that's what opened holes in your Internet to allow the crud through.

I decent AV and firewall is all that should be running.

Silicon Vampire, ive finnaly managed to resolve the problem after another 3 hours of scanning but thats 6 including spybot, adblock (adblock is supposed to notify you when a virus/ad is being clicked as well as removing all fake download buttons and ads. also, my computers firewall is being covered by my houses firewall so thats basically only 3 other softwares warning viruses ETC. also, any suggestions on possible other programs of the sort?

i used to play minecraft a good 7 years ago and i tried installing a mod i heard so much about and i just wanted it so badly. it was called rei's minimap. i did loads of research on how to do it and i followed the instructions in videos and other places and i got a virus that freakin sucked. it shuts off the internet on your computer, the program has a built-in lag switch when you try to delete it, and the shortcut to the virus'd program covered the screen. i couldnt trace any ip's or any way to figure out how to delete it. i resolved it by rebooting the computer and deleting the program just before it launched on startup. it truly did suck and i cried. but after all, i was 7 years old

You have not listed any Anti-virus programs.

Adblock only blocks advertisements on websites.

Spybot is anti-malware. That is different from an anti-virus.

Firewalls won't detect or prevent a virus from infecting your computer, only from communicating to or from it. Your coumputer should have it's own firewall to prevent being infected by another computer in your house.

I use two AV's, and one of them is just for scanning every once in a while. HH downloads fine for me as well as thousands of others, so you probably just need to allow an exception in your AV.

i said, i have 3 anti malware/virus programs + spybot and adblock (adblock tells you when you clicked a possible malware install. spybot has a setting that does the same thing.

Chances are OP downloaded HoxHud from somewhere other than the official group page.

Or some other trash he downloaded.

i SAID i have 3 programs together, 2 malware and 1 virus. read the whole comment before you rage post all over the discussion. very few comments on this post have been helpful in any way. ive 70% of all posts (INCLUDING YOURS) are about my antimalware and virus. if this mod were safe it would not have any malware or virus's involved in any way whatsoever. ive done a few hours of research and im not the only one who has gotten virus's from this program.

I have Malwarebytes and it never detected hoxhud as a malware or a virus.

while Norton(I know it's ♥♥♥♥) doesn't seems to find anything suspicious about it.
