It seems that Steam decided to take advice from the Grinch and gave us a big, bitter Christmas gift by removing the free cards from the Discovery Queue. Now, we are graced with the opportunity to spend even more to earn something as "valuable" as a virtual card.
Tell me, Steam, isn’t 30% on each game enough? Haven’t we spent enough feeding your coffers this year to deserve this small privilege, which doesn’t affect you in any way?
Are you trying to remind us that Epic Games is right there, one step away, eager to overtake you and begging for our credit card? The same Epic Games that, right now, is giving away free games to everyone. Are you, Steam, trying to show us that, once friendly and fair with your customers, you have now succumbed to greed?
A simple decision to stop distributing something as trivial as a few cards could, one day, turn a competitor once considered defeated into a colossus, because what history has taught us is that an empire doesn’t last forever; every great domain, no matter how strong, eventually succumbs to the weight of its own arrogance and decadence.
And if you agree with Steam’s decision to remove the cards from the Discovery Queue, keep your hands away from the keyboard. I won’t waste time arguing with a fool.

Hello, sadly Steam is going worse and worse every year...We can see the downfall of previous event sales and so on...I understand Steam sheeps will always defend this platform, but I genuinely hope, that Epic Games will soon finally implement all the remaining neccesary features and be a brand new beggining :). I am using Epic Games more and more due to it being more customer friendly platform and I am waiting for new features they gonna bring to market. I am just sad, Steam is filled with people, who always have to defend it and not realizing how greedy or worse this platform has became. Like taking more % would not be enough, they are making these event sales worse every year...As another example there is copy of like 15 badges with basically ''recolour'' of same image in ''points shop'' and so on...Please, this is getting worse and worse. I am writting this post, cuz I have to really agree with the OP here. His points are pretty valid, but could be said a bit different. Still...He is pretty much right. Like a last thing: I know many people who hate Epic Games are Steam ''sheeps?'' or idk how to call them. But you should realize if people who like Epic Games would also contribute with your stupid hate, then it would be even. Sadly the biggest problem is, that the most stupid people write and argue the most :-). I hope everyone have a great X-mas. Enjoy gaming and all the best for 2025! Which I hope will be finally the year, when Epic will bring a lot of awaited features :D.

This has been explained sooo many times. Those events were engagement tools. Winning every game on Steam? The little games? The Saliens? Yeah, those were engagement tools. They don't need to do those anymore.

I'm starting to call these people "Steam Karens," but seriously, I was genuinely disappointed when I wrote this post and didn't elaborate on it as I should have to better validate my arguments. I realize that some felt offended by the part where I called them "fools" for disagreeing, but in truth, it was just a joke, paraphrasing a line from Gandalf to Gríma Wormtongue in *The Lord of the Rings*, just like the title of the post.

The issue isn't having people think differently, but I know that no argument will change my opinion that removing the free cards was the worst choice. So debating this would only be tiring and draining for both sides. After all, if the problem is the bots, it would be enough to implement conditions that make only legitimate accounts eligible to receive them.

The point where steam sold out to smut/porn alongside games, was the turning point, steam does not, will not, and has never cared about gamer's and gaming communities, let alone ripping off developers for the 30%.

The only reason so many games are on steam is because of the massive user base, otherwise developers would go else where.

Allowing adult games was heavily requested by users.

Sounds pretty pro-customer.

Money is the root of all evil. People are the second. When money is involved, people go insane in their brain to get as much as they can with whatever they can. These companies don't care about anyone but themselves.

Inflation? yeah, sorry if you're struggling to live but give us money if you want some free digital cards. That's what is more important, to these companies. Years of the discovery + getting cards and now that inflation is up like crazy, why not force people to buy games if they want these cards? while Steam users buy games they can lose access to any minute/time etc

We are just throwing our money away on stuff we don't even own and can lose without getting a full refund for the thing we bought to play. If we can't access/play what we bought, give the players their money back. Paid for a product and not an illusion.

You can complain but like I said, they don't care. And when you have people not caring about stuff like that (rich/wealthy people) Steam/Companies know they can easily get away with it because they are still getting money.

Just buy/rent these games when their price is super low. Why buy games at full price when you can lose it at anytime? (well, except for the Devs who let you keep the game you bought and letting you play it whenever you want, it is what you paid for anyways) like Deadpool and can't remember the others.

Discounts aside, I was always looking forward to steam sales for the free cards since that's basically the way I leveled up my account, to me is like a tradition of sorts.

Now that there are no free cards and I have to spend 10 dollars in purchase to get just 1 card then it just doesn't matter anymore, now is just a steam sale that has nothing else going on other than the discounts.

Then again, since it has always been a tradition to me and now that I cannot experience said tradition, something feels amiss.

If anything I will not check the Discovery Queue as long as the sale goes on, I guess it's the only way I have for expressing that I don't agree with the change of cards for stickers.
