Cant play family shared games at the same time.
Around 2020 I use to play Scrap Mechanic with my friend for HOURS at a time. But the thing is shared it to me. So I was play a game from his library at the same time he was without getting kicked. We never did anything different. Btw we were playing multiplayer in the same world on different accounts. So is there anyway to mimic what I did?

What you're describing is not how family sharing works. When you use a shared game, the owner of the game can't use their library while online without booting you from the game. This is intended behavior.

I'm not sure how you got it to behave in a way that isn't allowed, but it looks like they patched it.

If you ever did that then it was a bug, the only way to do so is if one person plays steam in offline mode. So if you had some random bug that let you both play online at the same time, then its now fixed and no way to do so anymore.

Yeah as Brian says, if you managed it, it most certainly was an outlier, a bug.

It does not work like that for some pretty obvious reasons.

So no, there is no way to work this.

You could potentially spoof it by running one of the steam instances in offline mode, so long as the game doesn't strictly use steam networking or always online. This is however not me strictly endorsing trying to circumvent the "good faith" system that family share is. The real solution is to buy each user a copy of the game.

Not if you want to play online.

Kindly read the post again, there's games that don't rely on Steam auth and networking for multiplayer.

There's also games on Steam that are drm free and don't require Steam to run... not sure if that's one of them or not.
Family mode is over rated : it's just useful when you want to share an account while people is not home yet. So you can play before sista / mum etc is away. But two games can't be played at the same time.

It's a compromise, anything more lenient can be widely abused, anything more strict isn't useful.

Steam automatically assigns the game copy of the first library you add as Family Share.
Does not matter if another account has the game too, you only will have that first copy registered for your Family Share use.
So THAT user need to be offline for you to play.
There is some way to reassign the order from which accounts you receive Family Share games, but i cant really remember how, sorry.
Just search the forums, the topic comes up pretty frequently.

The system picks the library that is shared and that leads to headaches.

Only other way around it is SFS Select...

You should all use it when multiple people are using sharing for multiple accounts and own the same game that is being shared on multiple accounts.
