No. Some devs used to ban players for cheating achievements but there's no evidence that it's still a thing as far as I'm aware. Do keep in mind tho that it's still a "use at your own risk" thing. A dev could start banning for it and if it happens, there's not much that you could do about it.

Achievements have about as much value and meaning as you give them.

Nobody cares. Valve doesn't, and the devs of whatever game you're playing likely won't know or care either.

Unless you go boasting about it on that game's forums, the odds of anything happening are slim to none.

No one cares enough about Achievements any more to get that mad at you.
so, don't worry.
Now I personally would only use it to fix broken achievements.
But that's just me.

SAM, and the nature of PC cheating itself, are why there will never be any external Steam rewards for achievements, such as skins or avatars or whatever.

So, with no verifiable value attached, Valve aren't interested in making the wholesale changes to Steam's architecture that's needed to secure achievements.

Individual developers might see it differently, though, and might do other things to persecute obvious cheaters within that particular game community.

The only dev that punished SAM or Achievement cheaters was Payday 2.
and they didn't do it for that long.

The answer is. It depenmds.
Some devs have done so in the past. But hardly any if any do so now. Basically if achievements are that much a sticking point for them, they just make them server based so as to nullify SAM.

Just remember to keep your profile private or people will inspect you and find out you were a dirty cheater.

They only banned users from their game hub. No VAC or Game ban.

No, you cannot. The use of SAM is not detectable by Steam, so it is safe to use.

That is incorrect. No one is able to tell if any achievement was gotten "normally" or through another method. Offline mode will cause achievements to be gained at the same time, and some games are coded to make achievements go off when the play session ends.

And I'll repeat:
SAM is but one method to cheat achievements:
-Have a friend or family member help or complete the achievement for you.
-Edit the game files.
-Use someone else's game save file.
-Use a dev console or cheat codes.
-Take advantage of in game mechanics or features to bypass the "normal" route.
-Exploit bugs.
-Mods - either external or from the Steam Workshop
-Steam User Console

No problem at all with using SAM.

Simply because it has NOTHING to do with VAC, as it's not realted to in game behaviour.

I use it from time to time when achievements bug out. The only risk is really down to you - self-restraint. Because once you unlock acheivements, while you can relock them they sometimes won't ever work again properly for that game.
I would recommend if you use it, use it with no Vac secure, i believe it's a launch obtion for that -insecure or sth like this, better safe then sorry
Also if u use it for csgo, websites like faceitfinder will say your achievements are hacked with a red colored text
