Steam To Get ZAR Currency
Yes, you heard correct my fellow South Africans and ZAR community. I just got an email from Steam Valvue saying that it will implement a Rand currency.

From what i have read hopefully we will get it on 11 November or sooner. I am so exited about this. Its stupid i know, but finally, no more Dollars.

Opening up purchases in that persons local currency seems like a no-brainer.

the publishers/devs have to do that. Valve just recommends them prices, they have to at least click a button and until they have not done it, the game is not purchaseable in missing currencies.

Pretty sure Valve is the one who will do the conversion of my wallet :steammocking:

i cross-misread somewhere but what i said can be also a problem that might come up when new currencies are introduced, happend with chinese currency just a few weeks ago.

LOL, R 799.00 for fallout 4? BT Games is only 599. Looks a lot like someone failed their math classes in school.

Yeah, that's the first game I checked too, not sure what they're smoking to want to charge that. On the other hand, GTA V is under 400 bucks which is a steal seeing as Raru and Takealot are charging R600+ and R700+ respectively. The other prices don't seem too bad...

Are you telling me that the currency converstion also added exchange rates??

So we are basicly paying even more now for the games than before??

I don't think it's MORE than before, but definitely seems overpriced. I haven't bought a game in a store in over 2 years but today I'm going to get Fallout 4 rather from a store. It's a pity since the rest of my Fallout collection is on Steam

Sigh, there's a large chunk of games on my wishlist that I can't buy anymore due to the currency change. I assume it's something the devs / publishers need to do to support rand.

Well if I just take GTA V for example, in Rands it costs under R400 but in dollars it's $40.19 which converts to R571.75, so it seems like for some games at least we're scoring. It is a lot easier not having to do conversions the whole time. It does seem like the Devs decide on the price because a few games like Skyrim and Goat Simulator don't yet have Rand prices.

My biggest gripe with this: PayPal is no longer a payment option.

That, and the potential (as pointed out already) for games not being available because they're not available in ZARs.

Looks like they've successfully gimped the service. GG.

I did notice some of the games are cheaper than what it would be in dollars. But im also bummed about no more paypal, been fine for years. Guess our money is too good for steam :P
Guess If I need something, ill check on humblebundle, indiegala or bundlestars.

They did say the games will become availabe as they get priced in ZAR.

Im very ticked off about the no paypal thing, it was the only way i could buy games on steam, for those of you who are like me there are 2 sites i can suggest where you can buy games for steam but with paypal, they are greenmangaming and g2a, i hope Valve sorts this out though
