Nice job catching that scam. Yes, it was a scam. If i were you, i also would run malwarebytes program, your antivirus program, and change your email password also to be good. It does not hurt to be secure this time of year.
Just make some fake steam looking site and invite people on discord into putting their details into the web page, with a promise of free goods. And people fall for this all the damn time.
I think the ability to use accounts these days should come with a training course on how to keep your account safe and how not to divulge your details to random strangers online who promise you good. Good which will never appear.
Steam should make you go through this course and have you click on a EULA that states once the course is done and you get hacked, they wont wont help.
I have my account locked down tighter than my snare drum.
I have zero friends and every ave that somebody might use to contact me is locked down. I dont even think people can DM me. I get zero notifications. Nothing nags me. No friends to pester me.
