Reminder to fellow Canadians - Sales tax for all Steam purchases starting July 1st.
Almost forgot about this, read about it in late 2020 somewhere, but it's happening soon now.

Won't just be in effect for Steam, but for all major cross-border businesses that deal with the sales of digital goods that don't currently charge tax for Canadian customers.

If you have any games that have been sitting in your wishlist in anticipation for the upcoming Steam Summer Sale, you'll have about a week during the sale to snag them before the tax could possibly come into effect.

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/digital-economy.html

Nothing really shocking, I'm surprised it took them this long to catch on.

Dang. First, most US states and now Canada?

Still glad my state can't get their crap together, at least to force Valve. Most other sites already do it automatically.

It's bound to happen. Governments aren't gonna lett all those sweet sweet purchases go untaxed
so it's mean I'll have to pay even more taxes on steam ? yeah , we in québec where already paying taxes on steam games since a while.

Unless they raised them, no. You still pay what you have always paid.

Only a few parts of Canada implemented something similar in the more recent past, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and I believe British Colombia.

So this new rule will affect Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, etc.

Yup. The only thing that governments worldwide have in common is their ineptitude in all matters other than collecting tax.

it must really suck when you live on a budget and you just got that extra money together to buy something pointless for entertainment and then the tax hits you in the face at checkout.

on Steam, at least for every country, except for US and canada, taxes are included within the store price.
