Whatever happened to Valve ?
I've noted that the top three games on the played list on Steam (under Store - statistics) were all made by this company called Valve. DOTA 2, CS:GO, and TF 2 - all Valve. They seemed to have stopped making games back in 2012. Anyone know what happened to the company ?

Nope, just a blade, with a phone, in a line, so have time
Nice wordplay.
Steam, Steam controllers, Steam Link, Steam Streaming, Steam OS, Vive VR headset, Source 2, continued content updates for CS:GO, TF2, and DOTA2...

Yeah, they haven't been cranking out games, but it's not like they've been sitting around and twiddling their thumbs.

And all receive updates fairly regularly. Which is impressive for a small company which has lots of other matters running (Vive, Steam, Source 2, SteamOS, ...).

Many of the updates are just incorporating community-made material put up and voted on in the Workshop.
Which they still have to implement into the game and they usually include community content via game-based events, that Valve most certainly does work on. Even then, it's not like the community made Mann vs Machine, Special Delivery and Mannpower. And there's upcoming Robot Destruction and PASS Time game modes coming. That's just for TF2. I don't know much about DOTA2's and CS:GO's updates, as I don't play them, but I'm sure that Valve is still heavily involved in making and refining content for those games, too.

I find it insane that the core concept of object constancy is still elusive for some.
There are a few reasons why these 3 games are so popular, 1: Dota 2 and TF2 are free to play and CS:GO is cheap also these three are really friggin awesome games, so there's that.

Well Valve owns this thing called Steam where they are getting a cut of just about every piece of digital code on the market.

And that only benefits them if there is value within the system of trading and marketable objects

And usually that doesn't happen if you put out a game then 'do nothing' with it for years.

If 'free to play' and 'being cheap' guaranteed your game being in the top 10, every game on the Apple App store would be making more money than god.

Why make games when you can milk the community for money on things such as pixels on the likes of CSGO and DOTA2 and still retain multi-billion dollar value.

In all seriousness; Valve have been working on Source 2 so if they are to delve back into game development as well as licencing out their own software kits; the games will continue to flow. At least they aren't farming out annual rubbish with dated engines like many AAA companies.

Also Valve own Steam.
nice
Valve makes more than enough profit with Steam. You can combine the potential profits of L4D3 and Half-Life 3 (if they ever come out); more profit will still come from Steam.
I don't know
Someone posted a guide book PDF that is given to new Valve employees to read; there was an excerpt about how employees work together. If an employee proposes an idea and other colleagues like the idea, work on the idea will be done. I also think there was a reference to Half Life 3 in the guide book too; Half Life 3 being an on and off project. I'll have to find it, but the guide book is a good read.
