Anyone tried Witchfire on Epic yet?
I just tried it. It's like an FPS souls-like and it runs better than any game I've played in the past 5 years, not even close to a debate. 4k maxed settings, with DLSS on Quality and I'm getting 100-130fps. I'm using a 3080 ti and an i7 4790k. 12 people are on this dev team. It's simply incredible what they have accomplished.

No stuttering, hitching or slowdowns whatsoever. The graphics are seriously impressive as well, at least for my taste. Far better than I expected when I saw the gameplay videos a while back. A new Nvidia driver just released for it today, so if you try it, make sure to install the new driver.

I'll try it when it comes to Steam with a discount. Maybe.

Never heard of it. But anything "souls-like" isn't of interest to me.

Do you at least get paid for advertising?

Like with 99% of "exclusive" EPIC releases its usually this order:

1. Wait, what game? Never heard of it.
2. Wait, its out already? For months? Oh on Epic.
3. A year later* Hey a new game on Steam! With 75% launch discount no less! Sweet!

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME

They've been showing it off at the game shows for a couple of years now.

It's not exactly a souls-like. It just borrows some elements. It's like a classic fps, souls-ish, rogue-lite hybrid. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Cool, but you should post this in the EGS forums rather than here.

Here, let me give you the link:

Nice. Guys just love to hate Epic. A good game is a good game. A super highly optimized game is like a pig that flies. I don't care about Epic one way or the other, but the developers deserve a ton of credit.

Then I guess Epic's subreddit may be a better place to advertise the game than a store it probably won't be available in until 2+ years have passed.

Here's the link

Yeah, I don't watch those.

I looked up a gameplay video, not really my thing. But perhaps in a few years with a deep discount I'll give it a try. :cozybethesda:

They claim it's a "A roguelite for people who hate roguelites" then don't clarify what that means. With it priced at 3880 JPY it's too pricey for me to bite the bullet only to find that claim was utter bull.

It’s a weird claim for sure. Like I said, it’s a hybrid of a few things and I think it all goes together pretty well. It’s getting surprisingly good EA reviews so far. Epic does have the same 2 hour refund policy as Steam, so anyone can give it a try. Two hours is a solid amount of time to try this game. It gets on quickly.

No thanks. I’m free to discuss whatever I want on my preferred platform.

To each their own; it won’t be for everyone and patience is always a good thing. Never rush into a purchase. I wasn’t taken back by the gameplay videos either, but playing it myself changed my mind. It doesn’t try to hide that fact that it’s an action packed shooter, with borrowed elements from other genres. There’s certainly a target audience for it.

All that said, we live in a time where games on PC are horribly optimized lately, so I had to give this game a shoutout for its achievements. No politics involved.

the studio is weird.
getting acquired by epic (people can fly)
the core leaving, creating another one (the astronauts)
and their 2nd game is an epic exclusive?!
weird.

It’s a little weird on the outset, but they’re known for making solid shooters. People Can Fly tanked after Outriders. The Astronauts have actually been around since 2014. Their first game was The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. A walking sim that won a lot of awards. Witchfire’s art style is reminiscent of TVoEC, which also had amazing graphics when it came out. None of it matters in the end, though. Either the game is good or bad. We'll see how it turns out once the game is complete. Excellent starting point though.

You do you.
Posting in both places is also an option, after all.

The game also loads instantaneously, the very second you click on "Continue" from the main menu. I believe it loads the game in the background upon bootup. Takes a matter of a few seconds from bootup to playing.
