Kingdom Hearts on Steam breakdown
Alright so a lot of you Kingdom Hearts fans have been asking this question "When is Kingdom Hearts coming to Steam?" and you will get all sorts of answers like "It will never come to steam" or "lol gay ass buy it on egs" so I thought I'd put my two cents into this discussion.

First off, no it's not permanently exclusive to the Epic Games Store, otherwise they would have said so. Most epic games exclusivity only lasts around a year.

I have been scouring through the internet and couldn't find much of anything related until I found a reddit post that talks about how the latest update of the Kingdom Hearts games seems to have traces of code relating to the Steam Deck (Reddit post: I noticed Steam Input Strings in KH3 i didnt notice it before was that recently added?). From what I have read from the comments this has been confirmed by the SteamDB team.

This to me makes me believe that Square Enix is working on a Steam release but are wanting to make it Steam Deck compatible first before making an announcement. As for why they're taking so long when other games such as Final Fantasy 7 and Twewy didn't take as long... well, it's a collection of games.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 includes Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories and cutscenes of 358/2 days. Kingdom Hearts 2.5 includes Kingdom Hearts 2, Birth by Sleep and cutscenes from re:coded
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 includes Dream Drop Distance and Birth by Sleep 0.2
Then you have Kingdom Hearts 3

That's like 7 games to get working on the Steam Deck as opposed to one so it's obviously going to take a lot longer to make each game compatible with the Steam Deck.

It isn't that they want to have it ready for the Steam Deck. It is just contracted longer on Epic Games.

And please unwrap the link.

I'm pretty sure Epic exclusivity only lasts for 1 year. The fact that steam inputs have been datamined means they have been working on getting it done for the steam deck for a while now.

I don't use Steam forums all too much so the best I can give you is the title (I noticed Steam Input Strings in KH3 i didnt notice it before was that recently added?)

Epic exclusivitiy can last as long as the contract is made for. Some have 2 and 3 year contracts.

some games on epic are allegedly exclusive on lifetime. though i have not seen the court docs that is mentioned on myself.

Steam input does not mean much. it basically just extends on xinput. have seen devs using it without ever planning on utilizing any of its extended functionality.

I see. Oh well. I guess we'll see what happens this summer. I mean the Steam deck will probably be a big factor for wanting to add the collection to Steam and it being a collection instead of one game may still be why it may take longer to arrive.

SteamDB also has entries for Lollipop Chainsaw as far back as 2015 and that game never came to steam.

It belong to epic for PC. Epic is available for steam deck aswell, those datamine don't mean anything

Some games are contracted to only be on Epic for month upwards of years, it last as long whatever the contract states, the other issue is that this depends if they bother to list on more stores, or not after those contract ends, as worse case is getting abandon after their 1st year of release of the game.

Anyways AFAIK they're either on long term contract, or they just forgot about it, and didn't bother listing on more stores beside their main focus which is often console > PC.

Hopefully this is true, regardless I'll wait as long as it takes, since I really hate EGS.

To add: If Epic funded the game in part, such as with Alan Wake 2, it's unlikely that it will ever come to Steam as Epic has some say in its publication. It's been long believed that this is the case with KH1's PC port due to vague wording on Square Enix's part years ago.

I would not hold my breath for KH1 or any of the franchise ever coming to Steam.

Didn't Epic Games put some work on bringing those titles to PC?. Like porting?. If so it can remain there has much it wants to. Atleast they are doing something?. What is Valve doing?. Nothing. All they can do is collect 30% tax and make hardware junks.

We have Halo, Forza, Sea of Thieves, Gears 5, Sunset Overdrive, Killer Instinct, Uncharted, God of War, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, Horizon, Ratchet & Clank and Days Gone. All of these were exclusives, meant never to leave their home nest. KH will come to Steam, but when? No idea.

Those are poor examples. Those are from companies that produced the games for specific consoles and now they're breaking into a "new market". Epic has an axe to grind against Valve. They actively remove every game they purchase from Steam, sign whatever deals they can to prevent games from releasing on Steam, and have committed to never releasing games they develop or publish on Steam

If Epic indeed had any hand in Kingdom Hearts's existence on PC, it will only be seen on Steam if SE buys their way out of a perpetuity contract or if Epic closes EGS. Epic stands to lose their entire "stance" by allowing otherwise.

"Epic has an axe to grind against Valve." - Remember Origin and Uplay?

Its always been exactly one year for other games so they mustve gotten a longer deal for this one. makes sense its a lot more expensive since you need sony and disney to work with you.
