The only 100% safe way to get a steam game is via steam’s client.
I can recommend Fanatical.com, Humblebundle, Wingamestore and Greenmangaming. Never had issues with any of them.
Agreed. Those places are good, though not with out their risks.
3rd party purchases can not be refunded, so you have to make absolutely sure before purchasing. Console ports especially, as the last two such releases have shown.
For sites like GMG, double and triple check what service the key is for. I lost $30 on a single DLC there due to a key being for the Bethesda launcher and not Steam where I owned the game. Refund refused as I had already viewed the key. Totally my fault for not checking, but still a concern if you are in an a hurry.
There are pros and cons for everything. It is best to be aware of them.
