Request of understanding from Valve and Community alike regarding Windows 7/8/8.1 Support
I'm creating this thread for a realistic look at the situation without taking any sides. I hope everyone thinks this through and considers some options.

What can users do about this change at Steam:
Let's be realistic! No one has the time, energy or money to sue a big private company for something like this, and the ones who have those, are already capable of upgrading their systems or buying new ones; Apart from rude nature of such reaction, it doesn't help anything.

We can request Valve to consider new options for us, create possible situations that helps us use workarounds to continue using Steam on old OS.

Why should Valve consider such helpful actions for old OS users?
It's not gonna be because of they are afraid or because it hurts someone's wallets, but because we are asking as users to keep it real and independent. I'm sure Valve had a reason to be a Private company; There most be someone in there that likes to keep it real and unique, so I'm requesting Valve, even tho it's not their fault, to help make Steam compatible with as much versions of different OS as possible for the sake of gaming and to help fellow humans, and also to stand out!

Soon big companies such as Microsoft will own everything (if they haven't already), and when they decide something that you don't like, you'll not be able to react without losing everything. So please stand out and provide a real gaming platform for us and next generations and also a creative and unique job for your employees where they can blossom without constantly checking their obligations to other company's requests.

Why we like old OS?
Newer doesn't mean better. Modern also doesn't mean better. it just means "present moment"!

New OS tries to mimic smart phones. It has a lot of empty space in UI. Older OS is compact and to the point and as a gamer you need performance, not to read the news or check if it's gonna rain tomorrow. But not everyone that uses Windows is a gamer, which is why having open options and compatibility for all versions old and new is a nice thing.

Technology is a good thing but after some point, they push their luck and paint the technology with new colors just for sake of it; it's not progress or innovation or invention; it's just fashion with pure economy and business focus. Your security will be the same, features maybe even worse, but your privacy definitely gets weaker and weaker due to forced feedback and info collection in almost everything.

Some games don't respond well with different versions of OS; it could be due to massive amounts of RAM and resources the OS consumes or forced background tasks or just bad scripting of it.

Conclusion: Even if not in 239 days, I ask Valve again to develop independent strategies to be free of mainstream tech companies and create possibilities in future to use Steam (or at-least a simple possibility of launching the games we own, online) on Windows 7/8/8.1 Compatibility is very important in gaming.

What's more is that it costs a lot of money to maintain the software. No one works for free, and that little amount of money you paid for development eventually means nothing as it costs more than what you paid to develop an old system, let alone three -- Win 10, Win 11, and now Win 12 exist, and you want Windows 7 development on top of that and offer no financial incentive?

Nope, I ask that there was no Windows 10/11/12 at first place so the Windows 7 was the main project to be updated, costs don't change this way.

But apart from not supporting, there is the issue of damaging! I will be okay if they stop "security updates" on my OS, but to make it stop functioning by creating new versions and publicly claiming the older versions "unsafe", is a deliberate way of damaging what works fine.

Every single complaint Windows 7 and 8 users have about Windows 10 and 11 is completely mitigated by just switching to Linux.

I know that is an option but Linux is complicated and open source, it's not easy or safe to use, definitely has some things to do before and after installing. Simply it requires IT knowledge, I'll try learning to use it the right way but my request of Windows 7 support still remains.

Also some games don't support Linux right? that could be a problem.
Most games can be made to work and linux is alot safer than any windows os and alot better

I would prefer not being forced to switch in order to access my games... I don't like being persuaded with a gun to my face!
I wonder what everyone will do when quantum internet comes soon. You will have no other choice but to upgrade...

Nothing wrong with newer OS on the lines of protection. We are heading fast into quantum computing. there is no other way out...

We will also patiently await Y2038...

I see nothing wrong with Windows 10 running games even from 1994.

That will be the time to put my PC and all of my games in a coffin and say "RIP internet and gaming".

See everyone thinks future has to be liked by everyone else, while some of us see future as scary, not because we want to see it so, but because it really is so.

Our technology, advancement and progress are at the hands of the corrupt few, who changed the timeline and outcome we had in mind, they are driven by manipulative greed and control over the masses. If the same path was followed by honest engineers and inventors who really wanted to make life better for themselves and everyone else, we would have a different outcome.

While keeping that in mind, the current progress is nothing but running towards fantasy, picking up a stick waving it around and hoping to perform magic just because you saw it on a movie! Just because the word "Quantom" has been mentioned by a famous person or in a movie, doesn't mean we have to make useless re-skins of already invented tech just to sell it for more.

So folks, you keep living the dream, or the fantasy, but I really value what I have the old fashion way, let me keep my functional and practical equipment and pieces of tech which fulfills my needs, and don't force everyone to wear gold covered clothing or use golden spoons.

Forced updates, bullied to submision to upgrade to windows 10, the stop production of windows 7 OSs, windows 7 support termination - The main reason why windows 7 base shrinked drasticaly.

Definition of how Microsoft intentionaly killed windows 7, despite being very popular and very good OS. They don't want competition of their older window OS and wish to brute force new standarts , bloatware and spyware on their users with Windows 10.

It's very sad Steam bending the kne to them, not able to be independent

if you are on 7/8.1 ... upgrade to 11, not 10.

I have upgraded to windows 10 years ago and still hate this decision to this day, but I didn't had choise. Really miss functionality, PC friendly UI and customization of Windows 7.

They not know what issues are running Win10-11 on older hardware.

I'm not even sure if they notice the issues on their new hardware. Since the new hardware has a lot of capacity on all parts, they may not feel the background tasks constantly using bandwidth and RAM for data collection and updates.

The overall lag of the OS may also be less noticeable or just ignored by them and they suspect external viruses for it. (Simply one would do anything to deceive himself from the fact how terrible Windows 10 and above are.)

What you dont get on your 20 year old hardware is that hardware has evolved as well.

I have a minipc that Im pretty sure sure outspecs what you are using.

Exactly, and there is no "overall lag" unless you're using a literal potato that probably shouldn't be running Windows 10 to begin with.

Only Microsoft itself was able to make my hardware useless by preventing me from using Windows 7 for the thousands of projects I used in many years.

I don't need whatever is evolved at the moment, not interested in playing any game that requires 16GB RAM or 200GB+ storage, I find those games unworthy, they are usually heavy in graphics details but lack everything else that matters in a game

So the key point is, my hardware still works fine so does my entire Steam library as I'm writing this, not sure why you blame the planned issue in 235 days on my hardware.
