hot take i hate forced discord in multiplayer games
it ruins the eco system by having games like rust and sot who use prox chat by remove the hear your enemy system in the game.

dbd, you can destroy the killer by callout out everything and winning

comp games, this divided people in vc and out so comms are horrible with anything other than a 5 stack.

gtfo, just to play the game coop you need to go on discord to find a group instead of just qing for people in game.

say what you want but discord is trash, its good for talking to friends private but its legit a disease in the gaming world since everyone forces it so they can monitor them for some reason.

i miss the days playing with randoms and just qing for games and if you have friends you talk in game or in the team vc so its more engaging but now we have people hiding behind doors and trash talking behind peoples backs and what not.

i use to play duos in games like lol and having my teammate complain about other people all the time was so annoying but i wanted to have some friends in games at the time.

I disagree on this part, even before Discord, usually 3rd party voice software was preferable because in-game voice chat didn't usually have the best audio quality and you often needed to mess around with audio settings so the game wasn't too loud over people's voices. Before Discord it was always things like Skype or TeamSpeak at least personally.

Custom voice programs have been a thing for a long time for games as 99% of games either have no voice comms of if they do they are inferior to 3rd party ones.

If you do not wish to use it feel free to but you will suffer if you cannot communicate as well in most multiplayer games.

yeah, i agree.

I do prefer discord when talking to my friends, but it's annoying af how games keep stripping out basic social features.

I wanna meet people in-game and friend them. I met all my internet friends by doing just that (mainly in Deep Rock Galactic), and it's kinda like witnessing the end of an era imo.

imo, every online multiplayer game should have text and voice chat.

Wait, GTFO doesn't have matchmaking? Seriously? I was interested in getting this game, but now...

THIS!

If a game has built-in voice communication, why not use that? Seirously? It divides the match between friends and others on the team for no reason whatsoever.

I guess it's fine for easy-going games, but otherwise it is not only counter-productive, it walls off everyone who doesn't want to use the platform (myself included).

I hate forced app usage of all stripes generally.

I don't use Discord as I have no use for it, so it becomes an annoyance if a game would suggest I must use it.

One thing that annoys me is that being disabled and mostly housebound these days, I no longer have any need for a mobile phone except for a few weeks per year. And yet here in Britain certain government organizations say I need to have a mobile phone for access.

Erm no, I don't. So I forced them to offer alternative which they were not too happy about. But they had to do it.

It's the assumption that because a lot of people do something therefore everyone must. Not cool.

Although perhaps the worst one of all is electronics these days having apps when they just don't bloody need them. Much of the time it gives forced obselecence. If the app goes down, the item becomes useless.
