i am getting duplicate games in the steam library
i added the gog version of a game to my steam library and then i clicked play. after that the steam version of the game appeared in my steam library and it said running for it instead of saying running for the gog version of the game

after that when i quit the game it says purchase for the steam version of the game in my steam library and i cant remove that game from the steam library. if i completely close steam and run it again then the steam version of the game goes away but if i run the gog version of the game again from steam then the steam version of the game comes back

why is this happening? this is new and it never happened before when i ran non steam games from steam

Games don't appear out of nowhere; you probably had the Steam version all along and just didn't remember it.

... and if Steam had a bug where it accidentally activates Steam games, it would be all over the forums and gaming-news.

Just out of curiosity, what would be the name of that game?

the game on gog is probably a "lazy" version with steam not fully removed.
if you keep certain code and/or files in the game, this can happen.

Yeah I agree with wuddih that looks like a lazy port to GoG of the Steam version with all the Steam API still compiled in so it registers with your running Steam instance even though you don't own the game on Steam.

ok. there were steam api files in the game folder. i removed them
