And if they’re so much more modest than .... mine .... why should Valve concentrate marketing upon that segment?
Perhaps the Deck isn’t meant for a user in your circumstances, NLfF76.
Moreover .... how does the typical gamer acquire the requisite hardware if they’re not able or willing to spend four hundred dollars?
Except it isn't. As shown by the constant selling out and being put on back-order.
Steam doesn't decide when a game goes on sale, the developer/publisher does. They don't require a game to go on sale period.
Oh, this conspiracy again about inflating the numbers.
You mean a VR setup? A setup that is not only a very expensive entry but requires room and has very few games that can be run on it since it's a VR headset?
I guess consoles don't exist. I guess low-end gaming laptops don't exist.
I'm sure they will take advice from someone who has shown no technical, logistical, or business knowledge in making products in the future. I'm glad they essentially ignore these forums.
the max til today is NA/EU/UK via own logistics and AU via EB Games (not the deck). also announced aug2022 deck via komodo for some asian countries, they are just reservation, no shipping. that is Valves hardware coverage.
and as for price drops ... i would rather expect price drops on the Index. which since release has not seen one yet and that was almost 4 years ago. the deck itself .. i have competitors to the deck, like several ayaneo and gpd win, the deck is dirt cheap.
I will laugh in 2025 when i get a steam deck for 100 dollars and still consider it a failed piece of hardware, that wont be funny is how old an useless it will be for anything but emulators, specially with the overheating an battery life i doubt that many steam decks will even function without replacement batteries by 2025
this is my opinion on it, i can't go to steam deck forums to actually ask users but they post there own threads about it, like the one posted just the other day about the Final Fantasy game they couldn't play it.
"oh it should work"
"oh you will have to ask the developer of the game why it won't work"
that kinda stuff is just really sad and typically the kinda response you get anyway. thanks anyway i will save my money for a bucket with water dripping in it, watching the ripples will be more entertaining then the black blank screen users have been posting they are stuck on.
this is exactly why you need a price drop.
Also better if they use the Steam Deck hub to resolve matters or utilize support for that device, since they would be more used to their own device & what to recommend. You'd be surprised what users think they know, but do not know - especially on an OS foreign to them.
Have you forgotten YOUR own claims?
Remember the battery dangerously overheating bit?
So once again, with a credible, verifiable source, state what those numerous, serious issues are.
(Oh, and please note the use of the plural - you’ve stated more than once that there are many known serious issues.)
Steam Deck Wifi cutting out. :
they over laped the wifi connection with both the SSD card housing and the Audio Cords for the speakers are running along side the Wifi Antenna creating more interference.
also found a nice solution to modify steam deck for those interested in better Wifi Connectivity.
get yourself a external wifi antenna in the 5g 2.5g range, you can get to the steam deck antenna under the SSD m.2 card be sure to remove the SSD m.2 before taking apart your steam deck.
replace existing antenna cable with new cable an run it to somewhere you can mount the external antenna to the outside of back shell of the steam deck case this will greatly increase the preformance and range of the steam deck's wifi. and also cut down on the audio signal interferance.
i have spent alot of time watching Steam deck forums in regards to users problems and issues with the steamdeck. Limited use of steam software library being choice between working on the deck or working on PC.
Limited steam library Migration :
Steam users bought the steam deck as a second device to play steam account games on, how ever you can not play on steam deck and pc at the same time with the same account, even if different games are wanted to be played, this has limited alot of the user base from enjoying the device, as it is advertised.
Poor Sleep mode/ Constant battery drain even in standby:
Sleep mode an standby mode seems to cause a internal error within the steam deck if the battery drains completely while in sleep mode some type of GPU limiter gets switched on which causes the device to need to be RMA back to steam.
Use of Life of Thumbsticks:
The thumbsticks for many users are already needing to be replaced which is questionable issue since steam has intended for them to be replaced the question is what can someone really expect for the use of life from the thumbsticks.
SD card Error:
Alot of steam deck users are complaining about Steam Deck destroying SD cards, however i did see a command a user has posted to fix the issue, others however say the cards are completely ruined some having lost 100's of dollars in SD card Damage, Assuming Constant read/writing to the SD cards is what is ruining the chips.
Hope this short look into steam decks issues helps to open the eye's of Steam Marketing and to give users some hope of better quality of product for the price.
Anyone reading, do not do this because it will void the warranty if you mess up your deck.
This isn't an issue. This is Steam doing it's job and doing what it always has been since inception. There was no promise about playing on multiple machines at the same time. Don't spread lies.
This is literally not an issue. I've had mine die in standby multiple times. Never had to RMA it.
You can replace them with the new type of thumbsitck that is immune to drift if you want. They literally made a set for the Deck.
The damage to SD cards are because the card is a cheap knockoff 9/10 times. There isn't a widespread issue with SD cards.
You are legit spreading misinformation about the device that you don't own, have not researched, and do not understand what it even is.
the issue with the thumbsticks is complete failure.
the issue with the sd card seems to be software based in linux and a user has found a fix
the issue with steam library usage really limits the steam deck appeal, it is a user issue, there is also a issue of to many games in the library that causes a new issue on top of the can't use pc and steam deck with same account at same time issue.
the wifi issue , if your worried about your steam deck warranty i say don't bother, many users have and need RMA and can't get them steam will not honor them.
i personally feel like anyone buying a steam deck is taking a risk with something that will not work as its ment to, that troubleshooting and fixes , including replacement is part of the product. i would rather a working wifi then one that can't even reach across the room, or one that requires your steam deck to be docked to even have internet connection.
there is also a USB C error going on with the onboard screen and HDMI of usb C another reason why steam deck needs a casting system for big screen tv's which would eliminate the use of dock for tv, and would allow users to play on the steam deck while casting it to the tv much like the Wii U was capable off. I think many users expect that much if not more.
You are spreading actual misinformation about the Deck.
all your questions about the quality of steam deck will be 100 % Answered.
Fact checking, all of these issues are Factual, please review steam deck forums
Thank you for your replay and have a great day!
Thanks for doing your part for the system to make steam great again
it is now up to steam to do right by its customers and it starts with steam giving the people a offer they can't resist.
I am a regular in those forums.
You are spreading misinformation about the Deck.
not the product marketing, or the supposed declare of sales, of steam telling us all its a top selling product like csgo, or dota 2, or valve index. no just the facts please. and the steam deck forum has them.
it has everything you need to know, including why this thread is even here, because after reviewing the steam deck in the hopes of possibly purchasing one, this is what i found.
this is what my conclusion was , its a work in progress, there is also currently a GPU limiter error for many steam deck users going on , with several sighted RMA's going threw on the steam deck forum.
its apparent that over heating issues are burning out one of the graphic processor chips and causing this limiter, i don't have alot of issue on it but there are several break downs of the actual chip assembly and several threads that discuss the over heating and the 95c temps that could cause the GPU to fail.
All that being said i want to see Steam deck succeed i want to see steam do well, i have no reason to see anything fail in the tech industry , and i am already a victim of failed VR industry and its lack of progress. which sadly as a gamer we need them to succeed so that they improve so that more people buy them so the industry as itself improves.
What it means if steam deck can succeed, it might mean cheaper pcs for everyone portable pc power that is under 300 or 400 dollars , so that people aren't spending 1000's to own a pc, much like tablets and chrome books have done selling for 100 dollars, its my hope that in a few years or a decade "deckaid" we see the same type of hardware improvements that will let someone get there hands on a steam deck for 99 dollars. maybe less.
I just bought a new prepaid cell phone for 10 dollars , brand new, the USB C cable alone costs ten dollars. it was a 80 dollar cell phone, it has no activation and its basically a Game phone/ camera phone/ wifi camera for someone that doesn't have a cellphone its pretty awesome. my hopes is steam see's the same value in steam deck.
but getting steam deck into players hands so those players can "FIX" whats broken with it is gonna be key to the products success. review the steam deck forum again and you will see just how many real users are the ones fixing the issues for others. not the steam support.
(Reply to users below)
less then 15,000 posts on steam deck is pretty low numbers its been over a year since release, im pretty sure steam has changed steam deck forum posting so only owners of steam deck or purchasing accounts can post in the comment of steam deck forums, i was able to post in steam deck forum in dec, but after creating this thread that posting privlage was removed.
so steam changed something.
What i really find important is that the all the issues justify a steam deck sale, that typical users are the ones who are trouble shooting the product. i don't think people really are wanting to spend 400 to 600 dollars to beta test a Steam OS device, they are buying it with the intention of playing steam games on it when they want to.
Realistically can you play what you want , when you want, on the device?
I want to say no cause your limited to what you can play, and how long the device will maintain a charge, and that is when the device is working correctly as intended and your time is not spent "trouble shooting" the device.
I’ve asked you before, can you please provide a link to a reputable source for your claims concerning overheating and “serious issues” relating to the battery?
