How to uninstall Mass Effect Legendary Edition
I cannot fully uninstall this game. I have hunted down the major folders, used Revo Uniinstaller to get the HKEY crap, nothing works. Does Steam have a corporate memory of my game, so that each time I try to reinstall it returns it to those settings? I have no idea why this is so damn hard. Could really use some help.

Are you using your library to uninstall it?

Configuration files are usually uploaded to the cloud storage and will be downloaded on re-installation.

What doesn't get de-installed, what do you expect to happen and what actually happens?

Are you trying to remove everything related to game itself on system?
Are you trying to just remove the game save only?
What exactly trying to do?

Game saves are normally stay on system even if uninstall game, unless game save were stored in game folder itself, which not many games do that, as they're either in document, documents\mygames, Steam\userdata, in any of the AppData 3 folders, or etc places where dev may assign the location where game save written to, and read from.

If your goal is to just delete game save, and play game from start, I'm pretty sure can delete save via in-game if not mistake for mass effect games. If not well this what you do, launch game, delete save files, close game, this should cause cloud save to be deleted for said game.

What I am trying to do is get back to a clean install, as something has caused my ME2LE game to have flickering light and lose synch with the cutscenes (words come long before the character moves their mouths). It clearly shows on the title screen that it remembers my ME2 save. Ihave used the Revo Uninstaller, which activates the game's uninstaller. Once it is done, it searches for hidden files and gives you the option to delete. I will reinstall, delete the save if I can, uninstall, and try again. Something in one of my attempts to add mods is responsible, so I just want a clean install and go from there. Thanks for the inputs!

Nope, used Revo. It activates the uninstall on Steam.

Looking for a totally clean install. Something is causing that glitching, so I need to get back to a pure install.

Is there a way to get rid of those configuration files? The mods I put on seem to be clashing, and I just want a clean install. As I mentioned, something causes the ME2 intro to glitch, and when gameplay starts up there are endless afterimages (an image stays for a second or 2 after it should have disappeared).

Well if this is a mod issue, what you want to do is when you uninstall the game, make sure the game found is also gone, if not then mod files may still be there that be reason why issue still around.

Now this what you can do to delete save for sure from cloud, and you can start out fresh completely if you were for whatever reason you kept getting your old save back from cloud.
1. launch the game.

2. Alt + Tab out of game.

3. Head to where game save location, and delete.
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save\

4. Close game, and let Steam cloud sync, it should delete save there.

You know you did it right, if you no longer see your old save data here.

If want try 2nd method this be doing same steps, but we're gonna do something different.

1. Disable cloud save for game, by right clicking on game from Steam library, click on properties, and uncheck box for cloud save.

2. Head to where game save location, and delete.
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save\

3. Launch game, make new save, then close game.

4. Head to where game save location, and make copy of save you need it later.
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save\

5. Renable cloud save from step 1, then go to step 6.

6. Launch game, alt+tab out of game, go to here, delete saves, and place your copy saves you made, remember step 4 that why need it, then close game, and it should replace what on the cloud save with your fresh new game save.
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save\

If you want everything to be "clean" aka reset to defaults then you shouldn't uninstall because that process only removes the program files and it will pretty much never touch the config files. This holds true for pretty much any type of software.

Instead: remove the config files.

On Windows you'd want to look around %appdata% and/or %localappdata% to find the related config files. There is no real standard here, but it's common that vendors use their name for the main folder.

Wow! If nothing else, thanks for taking the time to explain this! I will try this out!

Is it just me, or does it seem that it is a very complex procedure to get a clean install back? True, I should have backed the damn thing up. But all I want is to start from scratch. I would have thought Revo would find the damn reg files, but Steam remembers stuff and sticks you with it? How do mods survive an uninstall and reinstall? This seems incredibly stupid. Sorry to sound upset, but this is crazy.

Via the steam cloud. Same for all other modded games, I can uninstall Stellaris and purge all of its files, install the game and it will also reinstall the mods that were cloud saved with it.

Side note: There is no currently existing way to purge cloud saves other then prior to installing, disabling a games cloud save system, play the game and lock a few saves down, then quit, Steam will say its unable to sync and may ask if you wish to overwrite the exsting cloud files with the ones you just played

When come to mods, Steam only remove game files you downloaded, not files you added, so you see files left behind, only way to get rid of is to delete game folder.

Some mods store config edits to your saves, which save can be stored on the cloud, and downloaded when you install the game, or you run it and it verified missing file, so download it if left cloud enable.

Ok, I will try this. This system is so Orwellian. Thanks for the help!
