You don't understand.
This is like a once respectable pizza place that starts selling used cars. It changes the soul and vision of the place.
Also the fact that users can effect something like this also means a loss of soul and vision. They're losing focus by taking in more than the core audience that built them.
Speciallist shops exist for a reason because they directly target specific demographics. Having a too wide a scope is not wrong per se but it is like saying that they don't care what they do anymore as long as somebody wants it and will pay money.
i.e. they'll do just any old thing rather than focusing on the things that made Valve and Steam special. No heart. No soul.
Many people want Steam to be their one-stop solution for all their entertainment needs. Games, movies, music, series, ... probably even podcasts or books. It would be kind of dumb for them to not try and tap into those markets if they are present.
Personally, I'd like them to keep it to games. Jack of All Trades - Master of None kinda thing.
Yup, the popcorn and drinks will be released as DLC. If you get the season pass you get unlimited refills for an extra $50.
Exactly this.
They'll basically become a smaller version of Amazon.
