Updates need to be scheduled instead of continuous weekly updates
While I appreciate that the developers need to update their games on occasions its becoming a weekly/Bi weekly task to update the games for 4-5 hours a day with MASSIVE update sizes many I am sure are just reinstall. If these are patches because of Pirating ONCE a week is enough its a constant battle to keep my system up to data..
Steam should enforce a patch and not a Reinstall.
Steam should limit the number of times a week a developer can patch their software.
Don't allow companies to hide behind critical updates when in reality they are minor bugs.

What game is this? What your describing isn't typical of most games outside of EA games, just launched games, etc.

Also there is no reinstall for an update, some games the way they are built though depending on the change might have you updating very large files. Nothing Valve can do about that, nor should they ever limit patching. No one wants to be stuck with a broken game waiting a week for a fix because the developer released a patch that had an issue and can't fix it until next week

PS Patching for minor bugs is not a broken game, every game has bugs they all dont have to be patched one by one they can be done in a consolidated patch.

Alyx has not received any update since may 6th.
condition zero not in 2 years.

Agreed if it was a common issue I am sure more people would have mentioned it but in my case sitting through around 80GB of downloads a week to update the Steam games is becoming intolerable.

Lance, No joke just finished now another 54GB for Alyx, 12GB for Contractors and 6GB for Pavlov.Thats just today bearing in mind I have had around 15 updates all week so far and even half life 2 has just updated all be it a few MB.
I guess I am not reading it wrong the Numbers on the Left separted by / are the amount downloaded and the second number on the left is how much is to be downloaded followed by the disk updates amount done and completed.
Many of the games have 2 or 3 a week of at least 3-4 GB.
Guess its just my PC so I will turn off the updates its just to much to have to hang around 4-5 hours every week for the updates to complete.

The last update for Alyx was on the 6th of May, so unless you've got a lot of Workshop content installed, something very very weird is going on.

There's a log file, Steam/logs/content_log.txt, which might shed some light.

Steam should limit the number of times a week a developer can patch their software.

You can right click on any game and go in its properties, then there set the game to be downloaded only when you launch it.

While you absolutely need to update games on Steam to play them (although some allow you to opt in previous versions which allow you to keep playing in a single version all the time without the need to update) it at least give you the power to download updates that you actually want whenever you want them. If there is a game you never play with anymore and you decide to play it then it won't matter if you haven't downloaded the 20 previous patches; it will all download then when you launch the game again.

The only problem of this solution is that you have to do for every single game in your list. And this setting is reset if you uninstall then reinstall a game.

Edit: unrelated but in the same area, I also strongly suggest that you tick the "never download while playing this game" for any MP game you have so you don't suddenly lag out of nowhere because Steam decide to download something while you play online.

Thanks I will do that for the next round of updates the completed ones are not very useful as they do not contain the size of the updates and only list as completed. Plus I have now cleared the updates list.

Hi Brian,
Its only Monday and still a long way till the end of the week but here is what looks like to me a 667.8MB download for Half-Life: Alyx.
Not sure where all the updates come from.
