Besides, just because store A does something doesn't mean store B has to copy it.
So achievements already have points and there is a "perfect game" count as well, for games where one has 100% of the achievements.
I don't think we need pointless and/or artificially inflated numbers to show off... at least not more then we already do with levels, badges, awards, game counts, ect.
If you care about achievements, even with every one of them being 1 point, you will look to complete them all.
If you want to add different point values per achievement, I would expect to have a shop or something. But developers could abuse that. And they already do abuse achivement count in some games with the current system.
Instead, a couple of achievements tiers like in kongregate or consoles, but without points, should be plenty for your needs. That coupled with achievements separated by DLC

And that's why I stated what I did.
For a start, thsi idead that others must copy is flawed. Reality don't need to work like that.
Secondly, why would they? The most pure and straightforward forms of achievement is as Steam have it
1 achievement = 1 achievment to your global count.
Adding points NOW would turn the system upside down, as first of all you'd bneed to retroactively expect all people to change the surrent setup. Not going to happen as there are dead and dormant devs.
Second, as the system is setup without the ring fencing that other systmes have like PSN and XBL, where there's either a points limit per game or a global limit of trophy worth, you don't have that here.
You can have a game with 1 single achievement (like Devil Daggers) or a game with hundreds or more (like Civilization 5 or Killing Floor 2).
To add points would be unnecessary work for no reward or benefit.
