Steam deck keyboard skins for 5000 steam points... for real?

What a rip off. :D

Clever though that valve is disguising their sellout strategy behind a manipulative 'points shop' instead of offering the skins in the store for real money.

Imagine if they didn't hide it behind a virtual currency and offered such a keyboard skin for $1.49 in the steam store... would be funny to read the reviews.

I like the points shop, but this goes too far.

Don't need to, some people have hundreds of thousands of points or more. I'm pretty sure we have a thread about it somewhere.

Along with their obvious lack of any real value, this is also why Steam will never allow anyone to convert points into $5 coupons again - some people would basically go to town.

Edit: Really it's not that difficult to get points, some people have bought multiple Indexes by now or have really popular user content.

Oh, yeah $50 for a cosmetic change on the steam deck is pretty overly expensive. I woulda imagined maybe $10 for all of them. Unless there's some way to get them for a lot cheaper or free.
Although, you are getting like 35000 points just from getting the steam deck so probably that's how they justify it.

It's $50 for games and the cosmetics are free bonuses though.

What else am I going to buy on the points shop? I have everything I want from it already. I don't need to hoard my points for a rainy day. It's not like real money.

It's $50 for games and the cosmetics are free bonuses though.

People are willing to pay 4800 points to reward posts that violate various Steam rules, so Valve perhaps figures paying just 200 more points isn't that much.

You don't spend money for points. They're just goofy little add ons. If you're spending money with the intent to get steam points you have a completely different problem.

Congratulations for buying into the mindset, though. Hope you never complain about lootboxes ever again. After all, you can get them for totally free as well.

The equivalent of 50 USD for something you should be able to customize for free is ridiculous. If EA would sell you a skin for an ingame currency you can also get by playing the game, they would hear no end about ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ greedy they are and that they are the cancer of gaming.
Oh wait ... people did. I forgot the first rule on Steam #SteamHasDoneNothingWrong

That's like saying a gift given to you it's not free because someone had to buy it first. It's free for you.

Ah yes strawman. Steam points aren't remotely the same as loot boxes.
