Steam Browser Bug - Reddit pages constantly reloading
Title. Using the browser to view any reddit pages is bugged, making the particular pages constantly reload. If you manually stop the reload it gets stuck.

If you want a workaround, replace the www for old

Example: www.reddit.com becomes old.reddit.com

Seems to work with any reddit link

I mean to be fair why not just go to the reddit app?

I can reproduce the issue, the same applies to some wikis, the gta wiki in particular.

Because the Steam overlay, and the browser in specific, is the ideal tool to look up stuff online while you're in the game.

The thing is that the Steam inbuilt browser was not intended to be used as a full on browser. It's intended for making certain web based functions in games to work.

You would be better using another browser frankly.

That feel when STEAM messes up once again, and you have people arguing why you are even using the inbuilt browser with the overlay provided with every Game on the platform and that a standalone Browser is better.

Almost like there is an inbuilt Browser, so you don't have to alt+tab out of Games which causes issues with certain Games when you need to look something up and considering it worked for most of the while when Steam decided not to break something yet again.

Nope, I'm pointing out that this is not what it's designed for, because that's fact.

All I'm doing is saying that you would be better off using another because that's salient advice. Doesn't mean I agree with it or anything.

I wish people wouldn't assume that because I say something I'm either making excuses or defneding something. I most certainly am not, no more than a history teacher teaching kids about the Second World War must threfore be a nazi.

Sorry, but really? It has google as its startpage, so it wasnt designed as a tool for searching while ingame, because you know, they did the browser for people not to browse, and to discourage us from googling and opening search results they've put google as its start page instead of making current game workshop or something like that a start page and then hiding the navigation elements like an address bar.
Was that some clever plan on how to deceive people while making a browser thats not really a browser? I seriously dont understand why, if they didnt intend to make it a browsing tool, they gave it browsing capabilities that invite you to use it as a browser by default and even called it "internet browser" as in overlay button.

It has google as it's start page probably because it has to have SOMETHING.

That doesn't mean "hey this means it's a fully fledged browser" - that's one hell of a leap of faith.

No VAlve have SAID this. So present your evidence to the contrary please. and how you know better than them.

It was designed as a means to display web based stuff that links from in game. You know how if you're in a game and it says something like "click here for info"? yeah, that sort of thing.

I have the same problem. It's really annoying.

It was working great before.

That's the problem with webpages. As Java and other bits update, you won't notice it on a live browser. But Steam's browser isn't a full blown browserm, as I said so this will happen.
reddit runs like ♥♥♥♥ even on a normal browser so maybe it's not just a steam issue

Steam browser is very basic and minimal, don't expect it to run everything as well as desktop browsers, that were specifically designed for web browsing.
It also lacks a lot of the security that you would get with a real browser, so I don't recommend it for general web browsing... useful to google something mid game, but more than that don't expect much.

A lot of sites also need to maintain code specific to certain browsers (since functionality differs slightly between them) so I am guessing that is the cause.

There are web browsers out there that are text-only, they can't run javascript, don't run CSS, so a lot of sites would not work with them - but they are still web browsers none the less. Just because it is a web browser doesn't mean it will be able to provide every feature available.

But just because they exist doesn't mean this is one of them. It worked before and it doesn't work now. It's a valid and reasonable thing to ask why the browser is less functional now and whether it will be fixed.

It's unfortunate then that almost every google search for game related topics will usually end up with a Reddit thread as a top result. At least in my experience.

Yes it's a valid question to ask.

But it's also a valid answer to point out fact isn't it - that this "broser" was designed as I said - to offer functionally for games with web based parts to them.

It was NOT designed as a web browsers. So what you're not understanding is the reason it worked before and not now is because things update. Steam didn't use this for this reason so they didn't update it in that accord.

It's very simple.

hey bud, I know you're really keen on informing people of the intended purpose of the steam browser, but people here don't care to know. What they want to know is, why does reddit no longer work on the steam browser when just a week ago, it worked perfectly fine. Obviously valve has made a change that created the bug, and OP's intention is to have them find out, so they can fix said bug. I don't get why you're intent on dismissing the idea of fixing just because you (wrongly) think the steam browser isnt meant for... browsing...
