This Koei Tecmo sale is ridiculously stupid
They have games from 2015 that are '75% off' from a $60 price tag. Steam shouldn't allow companies to pull this sort of silliness where they jack the price up and call it a "MASSIVE DISCOUNT!"

I mean, 75% off is still... 3/4 less? You should at least complains about some other games that only have 30% off despite not being so new. Koei tecmo always have been scums when it comes to game prices and this is why I only own one game. What did they even expect?

If you could provide the name of the game from 2015 that is 75% off of a $60 price, it would help. I feel your post is mostly hyperbole. The closest match I could find was Bladestorm: Nightmare from 2015 that is 70% off their $59.99 price tag. According to steamdb, the base price has always been $59.99 so they didn't "jack the price up" just for the sale. Even if it was, what do you want Steam to do about it? It's not Valve's game to control the price of.
Thanks for telling me about the sale!

My complaints aren't the same as yours though. Mine are:

1. "See All Specials" at the bottom of the page isn't a clickable link and there's no associated link that lists all the deals.

2. The Atelier games aren't discounted enough.

3. The publisher page doesn't go well with 150% browser zoom even though almost all other pages on Steam do. FWIW I'm using a 1080p screen with 125% baseline zoom in Win10. 150% in-browser zoom normally fills up the whole width of the screen nicely, but the publisher page goes well beyond that on the left and right; I have to go down to 110% browser zoom to fit the full width of everything.

OP it's up to the game devs/publishers to set the prices for their games.

Steam not going to dictate how people should make their games, selling, or etc, it's always been up to the game Dev/publisher to handle these things themselves, even on console same thing.

Many companies do this and they may find that the games don't sell well at all at full price being so old. Some publishers feel reducing the base price and then having smaller percentages off when sales hit is worse than simply having big deals every now and then and suffering not selling much with the games being full price as they were years ago.

Their games are always expensive and close to full price. They didn't jack up anything before the sale

You could wait for the sale to end then pay full price or pay the current price with the discount. They need to earn money but do you need to game is the question.

It's hardly just them that do this. It's extremely common for some publishers to just forget about a game after about 5 years then just seemingly set it up to be discounted at 75% or whatever standard discount price for every steam sale from now until the end of time. It's not like indie devs that price with increasingly deeper discounts over time until they hit the less than 10 dollar without DLC mark. It's just buy the 5 year old 20+ dollar game or leave it cause no one remembers they even sell it.

That would also be illegal and is mostly restricted anyway

So you assume older games are automatically discounted over time? A lot of people do. But not all games are and there's no rule that says they must be.

Look up the games on https://steamdb.info, any recent price hikes? What's what you made wild assumptions and let your imagination run wild? Inconceivable.

Question I am wondering ... are those game worth the price? I tried some Alchemist once and I was pretty confused. Looks like those games are for few people who enjoy them, but they are just weird for normies like us. Am I right?

Vote with your wallet, problem solved. What's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ point of ranting when you can just deny them your money?

The Atelier games? I played Atelier Ryza on the Switch last year. I liked it, decent story-wise but pretty laid back, although a lot of the gameplay is pretty typical JRPG fare. The crafting is what sets it apart and crafting better and eventually broken powerful gear is entertaining. And a nice change from getting to the end game town and buying it or finding it in a nook, or beating a particular boss.

I'll probably get Atelier Ryza 2 next year or so. I'm not sure I'd be compelled to go back and play the older games as is though.

The Atelier games (which I think is what you're referring to) are all basically JRPGs with a big emphasis on crafting, and very extensive crafting systems.

Also they have cute anime girls. In fact I can only think of one with a male lead protag and that's Atelier Escha & Logy, where Logy is the male lead.

(Also barrel jokes. Seriously, talk to barrels in the game. Or just look it up on youtube.)

If you're into this, then, well, yeah.

By the way, this started out on like PS2, but if you happened to be someone who plays stuff via emulation, then your first exposure might be the only translated DS game Atelier Annie, which is considered a non-canon side story and which I don't think is that highly regarded by series fans.

If you just want to try out the series, I've heard that Atelier Sophie is a decent choice, because it is more lax on time limits than some of the other games. Though, Sophie doesn't have native support for keyboard rebinding, so either you can mess around with game settings or you use a gamepad for it.

Meanwhile, if you don't want to play a game, there's an anime adaptation of Atelier Escha & Logy, though I think it's a bit short (at only 12 episodes), but the story is still well-told (not to mention the absolutely gorgeous ending theme). It'll spoil you for the main plot of that game, but IIRC it's actually the second game in a trilogy, the Dusk trilogy (which consists of Ayesha, Escha & Logy, and then Shallie). (These games are usually made in two- or three-game sub-series.)
